« on: September 10, 2011, 02:36:39 AM »
Its 7.30am and I am waiting to be picked up by friends and head into Aberdeen.

And guess what ?

Its hammering down with rain, as usual.

Forecast is for fog when the rain stops.

Enjoy   :-\

Turned into a nice day by the end of it. The course looked great and there was some pretty good play in the singles matches that I saw. I really enjoyed the coverage as well, which on the computer was mercifully advert free.

I was at Royal Aberdeen today from 8:30am to almost 5:00pm. Weather-wise is was a very "British" day. The sun shone for about 20 minutes. Otherwise, it was wet, raw & windy. I am sure the home team was the beneficiary of those conditions.

I played RA once in May, 2001. I had forgotten what a very strong course it is. The front-9 is really something.

The presentation of the course, especially around the greens, was impressive. If someone had told me the edges of all the bunkers had been trimmed by hand with scissors, I would have believed them.

Despite the weather, the vibe in the crowd was good. People were taking it seriously, but not too seriously. ;)

Brian -

Yes, I did.

The GB&I teams were hitting driver off the 1st tee in the morning 4-somes, while the U.S. teams were hitting irons. Tom Lewis hit driver off the 1st tee in the 1st match of the day and lost his ball in the gorse down the left side of the fairway. Kelly Kraft hit iron off #1 in the 2nd match and lost it in the left rough. The fairways on the front-9 seemed very narrow!

Since the front-9 was playing downwind, most of the guys were teeing off with hybrids and irons. However, they were hitting drivers playing into the wind on the back-9. I stood right behind the tee on #14 and both Tom Lewis and Peter Uhlien hit driver there in their afternoon singles match.

What will the boys on Morning Drive have to say about that result.....they spent all last week fawning over the NAMES on the US Side and how they had won on the Nationwide and shown up in The Open and tour events.......whoopsee..........those no namers from that little Isle over the pond must have performed wonderfully well!!!!
