James-That looks exactly like a trip I'd like to take...

Turboe - Totally agree with James.  England is very underrated as a golf destination - the people are fantastic and you won't run into a bunch of American tourists.  Also if you are trying to get a packed agenda, you will have better luck in England than Scotland or Ireland.  I did a great 9-day tour of England this year which I would highly recommend.  Wanted to limit driving early in the trip and see some of the northern heathland gems.  In May it was not crowded as we had a few of the places to ourselves.  The only round longer than 3.5 hours was at Birkdale, which was the only place that felt overrun by tourists (still fantastic nonetheless).  Have never felt so welcome as my days at Formby, Alwoodley, and Ganton.

Sun - Arrival Manchester / Hillside PM
Mon - Royal Lytham 36 (be sure to stay in Dormy House)
Tuesday - S&A / Birkdale
Wednesday - Hoylake / Wallasey
Thursday - Formby 36
Friday - Alwoodley 36
Sat - Ganton 36
Sun - Woodhall Spa 36

One could combine two of Alwoodley, Ganton, or Woodhall and add windshield time, but I prefer a leisurely lunch followed by an afternoon fun game with a lighter bag and different format like alternate shot.  If I had more time, would have loved to add Silloth and Notts to the itin.  If you are looking to extend the trip to full 2 weeks, you could hit SW England and see B&B, St Enodoc, and Saunton E&W.

Daryl, check costs of flying and renting for Manchester arrival/departure.  You can play for 5 days around Liverpool and then drive to Prestwick area then to St Andrews and back through Edinburgh area and then back to Manchester.  I love Scotland and really enjoyed the golf around Liverpool (all prices possible).

If you do fly in to Manchester come and shake off your jet lag with a round at Wilmslow, only a few minutes from the airport - nothing great architecturally but good conditions in which to warm up.

Plenty of good golf very close to Manchester Airport; I'm at Reddish Vale (MacKenzie/Braid ;)) and can heartily recommend it as a leg-stretcher!

Quite... I was thinking of making some joke about not as many as Ricky Ponting who seems to have been well f'ed recntly by Englishmen, but that would be childish ;D

Pete B,

That looks a decent tour. I'm glad to see not everyone heads to Scotland and Ireland, and you get bonus points (from me anyway) for mentioning Burnham & Berrow and Notts, even if you didn't manage to get there last time!

Cheers,

James
