"SPDB
hear, hear!

I enthusiastically SECOND THAT!

This thread almost immediately veered in the very same unfortunate direction as those long running and acrimonious Pine Valley, Merion, Myopia and North Shore threads did, and the reason those did is the very same reason (actually almost the very same words and remarks) and from the very same person this one did. The exhibits are posts #5, #7 and #9!

Tom, thanks for the complete story... and from the ultimate source none the less.  That is what makes this site so great!

However you did leave out one bit... the bunker between the 14th & 15th?  Was that restored to Tillinghast's orignal plan or was that a creation all your own?

Mike,

I believe Tom's restoration was very faithful to the original design, so I doubt he would take such liberties.  I am positive the 'Tarantula' bunker between the 14th & 15th was an original Tillinghast creation, restored by Doak & Co.

The Tarantula bunker was Tillinghast's and the name goes back to those days.  We did our best to put it in the same spot, although what was once in the landing area for both 14 and 15 is now a bit short of both.

I wonder why Ran has never written about this course in his Courses by Country section, especially with all the history?

Just to be clear, I was not having a crack at your work, your article or your knowledge - purely the argument between GCA that ensued.

I just want to discuss the golf

I doubt the club would want any exposure.......believe Myopia had their review taken down.

Mike, I believe some of this is covered in Wexler's Lost Links.

I'm neutral on the "new" holes versus the "old" holes. Perhaps Sampson was as good as Tilly :-X
You'd make a fine little helper. What's your name?
