Thx for your vote, Jud.  I like your thinking and multiple rounds/days playing at Lawsonia is something to consider.  The rave reviews on GCA combined with an under $50 weekday walking rate in late Sept make it an option that's hard to resist.  Still, I hate to sample only one item from Wisconsin's golfing smorgasbord and getting to play the original 18 holes at BWR that were/will be used for the Women's Open is somewhat intriguing.

Andy,

If you look at Reef's situation, he recognized that he would be back to Wisconsin multiple times and would have opps to play the other courses.  Therefore, we implored him to play the original competition course at Blackwolf Run.  If your situation is identical, do the same.

If, however, you only have one chance at Wisconsin, you need to make a decision.  Having not seen Lawsonia (but having read its praises on this forum) and knowing the devotion of those involved to Erin Hills, I don't think that you can go wrong with any of the three.

You still have time to reconsider! I thought The River was very overrated in comparison to the Straits which was simply spectacular and truly special. Have it your way. The holes in the original Women's Open Championship from the MV Course simply do not compare to newer nine which comprises the current River routing. Missing an opportunity to play The Straits....your loss!

I'll move to Rob's side...at Straits, you also have the benefit of a caddie (for some extra $$$.)  If you don't have that opportunity with frequency, I'd opt for the Straits.  There's nothing like playing a tour course with a caddie who really cares about how well you do.  If money is no object for the one round, I'd go with Straits and a caddie (or Erin Hills and a caddie, if they have a caddie program in place.)  If money is an object, I'd consider Lawsonia, which seems to be less expensive and of historical value.

What I'm saying is, with more thought, I'd place Blackwolf Run at the bottom of the list, unless you will return to Wisconsin as Reef will, with some frequency.

Andy:

Jud isn't far off by saying that multiple rounds at Lawsonia is a good option. A little $$ left over after the round? Enough to buy the entire staff and everyone playing that day a beer :)

If you really want to play something else, considering money isn't an option and you don't plan on coming back? I would say go with WS with BWR being a very close second.

I'm not sure that playing the original BW Run is that big a deal.  I enjoyed playing Meadow/Valley and BWR separately.  But playing the original won't happen very often so go for it.  How can you you wrong.  I love all three courses.  I even would rather play Meadow/Valley than BW Run.  Not that it is better, it is just more fun.

Thanks one and all.  I've actually got time for two rounds on the trip, but one will definitely be at Lawsonia.  All of your comments - as well as an e-mail from Reef, who didn't care much for Blackwolf (too target-y) - have me thinking that I should stick with my original plan to play Erin Hills (they do have caddies) instead of Blackwolf.  I'll have to admit that I don't have a burning desire to play Whistling Straits based on what I've seen of it on TV.  I like links golf (real or manufactured - have played and really enjoyed Kingsbarns) but WS just doesn't fascinate me for some reason.

Anyway, with regard to Pat's suggestion to buy the staff at Lawsonia a round with any savings, if you're ON the staff then I'll see you in late September and will be happy to buy you a drink!  If you're not, you're welcome to join me there on either Sept 21 or 22 for a round (of golf).

Tommy. Just curious. Did you ever play the original?
