An Open venue on the other end of the spectrum vs. TOC
« on: July 24, 2010, 12:20:41 PM »
Dear all,

I friend of mine, a golf professional and then some, has just asked me which of the Open Championship venues has the softest undulations within the fairways and greens, and perhaps the smallest greens - sort of the other end of the spectrum vs. The Old Course.

Any suggestions? Could Troon perhaps be one of these?

Royal Liverpool and Muirfield have the least undulating fairways.

Many of them have fairly small greens ... I don't know which would be the smallest, Lytham or Birkdale or Muirfield or Troon.  Royal Troon's are probably the flattest greens, there or Lytham.

Birkdale has pretty big greens but by and large the fairways are flat although they sit within large dunes.

Sandwich on the other hand is pretty rumpled bar the second half of 7, 14 and 15.

Thank you very much gentlemen, for your contributions. I have a feeling this friend of mine is planning several years of preparation to qualify for an Open held at a course that he believes will suit "his game" better.
