Every course I've played by Stephen Kay has some great routing fundamentals (tees close to greens, good change in direction and pace with balance in the distances) and some creative uses of tried and true principles (the bunkering on the 3rd at Maccullugh's Emerald Links is superb, especially for a 490 yard hole).

I thought he did a great job of routing The LND at Red Mike. Our group of fanatics thinks he needs to stop referring to the 17th as a Redan. ;)

Why

Because he builds fun new courses that are reasonably priced. Count me as a fan of McCulloughs, Architects and Links at Union Vale.

With old courses, he is clearly a renovation kind of architect and I doubt that he makes his pitch as a restoration architect, so shouldn't this thread be directed at memberships that choose the path of renovation rather than restoration?
