I'll be there Friday morning, and I'm volunteering Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon.  And I think I'll be at the church lunch later on Saturday.

Chip - The opening ceremonies are at 5:30 on Friday.  I've heard they're a wonderful event - well worth your time.

Dan,

I've seen the opening ceremonies eight times on both sides of The Pond (I'm old) and, you're correct, they're a wonderful event (which is why Friday attendance beats nothing).

THE word is just hitting the street that if we don't have some unfortunate rain event in Philadelphia between now and the weekend, Merion East is going to be offering these Walker Cup hotshots what can only be described as THE IMM! And from what I hear I mean IDeeeeeeeeal Maintenance Meld, in the sense of totally and highly complex F&F. Observers watching the teams practice said their eyes were noticeably wide as they watched their shots bounce and roll----not to even mention green speedo.

Perhaps a premature musing----but who will this benefit considering the experiences of the USA and GB&I teams?  ;)

Fingers crossed for continued good weather. I really am looking forward to seeing good golfers interface with a great course with an IMM.

It's too bad it looks like some rain coming this week to slow down the present IMM!!!

But there are a couple of options; one of them from superintendent Matt Shaeffer is to play the event before the rains come later in the week. Therefore the matches may begin within the hour with the closing ceremonies tomorrow evening. ;)

Did someone ask about the travel plans and schedules of all the thousands of spectators?? Well, the hell with that as the golf course and the golf comes first but all the spectators can still stay around on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and just party their asses off!

I hear there may even be a special competition for spectators. It involves hitting a ball from the old 13th green over the clubhouse to the 18th green. Closest to the pin wins a free membership to Merion. If you're interested in that competition I suggest you all bring your 64 degree 5 irons!
