Salt Lake City Golf

I have a day to kill in Salt Lake this weekend.  I noticed that William Bell built the public (and cheap!) Bonneville course in 1929.  Is this a good option?  Are there better ones in the area?

Chris:

Head to TP in Lehi or to make Kalen's day -- venture to Draper and play South Mtn. The former is walkable -- the latter is a good example in how to train for the Airborne Rangers.

Both are fine layouts -- especially TP for what now calls itself public golf in Utah.

Bonneville is really fun course and certainly the closest looking to an ODG public course here in the area.

Thanksgiving Point is good, but don't let Matt fool you, its cart-ball just like South Mountain.  I like SM better, but they are close enough where you can't go wrong.

If time is more of the essence then just stay right there and play Wingpointe....its a very fun and sporting track and has a few excellent holes.

1) South Mountain
2) Thanksgiving Point
3)  Bonneville
4)  WingPointe.

Other than Thanksgiving Point, my favorite public course in the SLC area is Valley View up in Layton.  Really nice track, just over 7000 yards, no houses, very walkable, etc.  My next choice would be Bountiful Ridge which is another great track and some of the best muni greens you'll find.  South Mountain for me is just OK.

Thats gotta be Old Mill.

I've played it before, one of the better publics in the area but certainly not one of the best ones....The finishing few holes on the back 9 are really neat even though its tough.
