"The Little Extras" that you find on a golf course....
« on: April 16, 2009, 09:34:44 PM »
I thought these sprinkler heads were quite funny, I have never seen anything like this on a course before...has anyone else something similar in their golf travels?

We've got one on our course that says "Just Hit It."

At Kapalua Plantation on the par 5, I think hole 5, from about 240 out the sprinkler says "Oh just go for it". Cracked me up and pissed me off as it was challenging my manhood and I knew I just did not have the nerve to go for that green hanging on the edge with my 3 wood.

Summit Golf Club in Toronto has a few of those on Par 5s (at least I think it was Summit) - hilarious

"Dreamer" is my favorite.

Architecturally speaking, I couldn't even muster a titter on the many occasions I've been subjected to this tomfoolery. Had you guffawed, I would be aghast. A chortle seems like a middle of the road reaction....a Doak 3 or 4 at best.

I know its been mentioned in other threads, but the plaque on the 17th tee at Cypress Point was a great extra that was unexpected

Isn't there also a "DREAM" sprinkler head on the 18th at Kapalua?

At my local club, there is one labeled, "TOO FAR 4 YOU", and another that reads, "TIGER MAYBE".

I have seen one that says 'club up'...it was about 200-250 yards or so out.

I hate these.

I found one on a par-5 while in a tournament a few years back. I responded with a big FU.

For 90% of golfers a  disk that reads "just go for it" from about 250 yards out may be cute and funny. But if that disk is the difference between a 2-iron or a 3-wood approach, it isn't funny.

If Melvyn ever comes over from never neverland I could see him replacing sprinkler heads with ones saying "You are not playing real golf."

Pasatiempo's par 5 13th hole used to have a "No Way" sprinkler head.  I think it's gone now.

I agree however I've never seen one of these "gag" sprinkler heads inside 250, but I'm sure it happens on lots of courses.

I hate them because sometimes I want a yardage from 300, to properly choose a layup club - if I am in that zone, and it's an important round, I sometimes have to waste time walking toward the green to find the first labeled head and then pace it back.

How about this unsightly extra

There's a course I used to play, can't remember which one, that has every sprinkler labeled with a yardage. Just sitting there with a straight face saying "343" or whatever it is. For some reason that cracks me more than "Just Hit It" or similar. I see "407" and think "Darn it, I've been right in between clubs all day!".

i actually played a college tournament a few years back at a course that had one about 285 out on a par 5. i hit a 3 wood on the green, then took a sharpie out and put "prob" next to the no on the "no way"

By no means a mere sprinker head, but a great caddy (maybe the best caddy I ever had in my life) that I had at Pinehurst Number 2, when I asked him if 3w would be too much, just said, "Wear it out."  I ripped it, and and I think he kind of held his breath as it settled, softer than I might have guessed, in front of the green.  Only afterward, did I crack up at what a great thing that was for him to say.

My favorite was spotted well off in the rough between two holes and is mounted on top of an old abandoned grow in head.
It reads:
JICYFU
178

I used to say "Lets Rock" and hand the player their 3-wood.
