Congratulations and Thanks to Chris Cupit
« on: March 25, 2009, 09:21:31 PM »
I don't think this has been reported here, though some of you may be aware that Chris Cupit is the newly elected president of the Georgia State Golf Association.  Congratulations from one Georgian to another; I know that the GSGA and our game are in the hands of a great steward for the next year.

When you think about the significance of the state of Georgia in the history of golf, serving as president of the GSGA is a large part of an awesome legacy.

The GSGA publishes an excellent bimonthly magazine, "Golf Georgia" which features a column by the president in each edition.  Chris' piece in the current issue, in addition to being extremely well-written, references C.B. Macdonald, NGLA, and "The Evangelist of Golf".  Chris believes in our game, and has, quite literally, put his money and his reputation on the line over the years.  I appreciate and applaud his willingness to serve.

Here's a link to Golf Georgia for those interested in reading a few of Chris' thoughts on the current state of the game.  Click on "view magazine".

"Golf...is usually played with the outward appearance of great dignity.  It is, nevertheless, a game of considerable passion, either of the explosive type, or that which burns inwardly and sears the soul."      Bobby Jones

Congratulations, Chris.

Does this mean that you now get to keep Mike Young and Bob Crosby and the rest of the GA GCA contingent in line?

If so, you have a BIG job ahead of you.  ;)

Thank you.  I'm looking forward to serving and it is a completely undeserved honor.

For any of you bored enough to read the article and see my picture let me be clear--I have already been sent the Tommy Boy clip "Fat guy in a little coat" clip a few dozen times.  It's great to have friends :D

My golf pro also made the comment "I knew a camera adds pounds but how many cameras did they have on you!?"

Time to lose half a hundred :(

Again, and with all sincerity, thanks.

I sought out the article just to see the picture based on your comments.  Not nearly as large as I was expecting after you built yourself up.

Congratulations!

Geez Chris, all you Georgians look alike:

Is Charlie a cousin of yern?

Chris:

Congratulations on the presidency of the Georgia Golf Associaton! We met in '07 right around the Masters at MikeY's house. Remember? You'll always be one of my "go to" guys on Rules theory and such. Have a great year!

Jeez, rules expert, president, club owner, champion golfer. I put all this in a computer and it said that in 1982 Judge Harold H. Greene, citing antitrust laws, broke you up into 4 different people!

Congrats!

Looking at that pic, I'm seeing a slimmer Peter Griffin?

Congrats Chris. I had not heard. A great choice.

It's going to be an interesting year for golf in many ways. Not all good.

As an aside, I've always thought Georgia Golf would be the perfect vehicle to develop more interest in historic courses in Georgia. Let me know if I can help on that.

All,

Again thanks for the kind words.

You know, the Tommy Boy clips and the Peter Griffin pic I could take.  But, Charlie?  Gawd I am getting ugly :D  BTW, he was the best man at my wedding years ago.  Charlie is from Fort Mill, SC by way of Cleveland TN and I'm originally from Texas so I can only pray that there was never any genetic crossover in our pasts ;)

TEPaul,

I hope I'm still on your list for a copy of the Flynn tome.  I thoroughly enjoyed that evening and wish we had more time.  Knowing a few rules was nothing compared to what I learned in just a few minutes from you and Wayne about your Yankee dude.

BCrosby,

At a recent meeting looking at the purpose of the Golf Georgia magazine, one of the best quotes was that it should "tell the story of golf in Georgia".  I'd love any input and help focusing on the history of our clubs.  Georgia is fortunate to have a rich golfing history and we could always improve on telling our story.

Chris, wishing you all the best in your term. If I may make one suggestion:

Please talk to Layne et. al. to see about an upcoming Ga Am at Augusta National. They are in Georgia are they not ? Founder was slightly interested in amatuer competition, yes ?

Come on I know you guys can do it !!
