John Marshall Weir Sr.

Never heard of this guy until I found a quick blurb on him that says that he was the "father of golf in Chicago." It goes on to state that he was a golf expert in America and Europe. He died March 7th, 1907.

Just wondering who he was and if there was anyone that knows the rest of his story.

Thanks. I have the same blurb, but it stops right after golf expert!

1893 was the year of the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. C.B. Macdonald had been promoting golf in Chicago for a few years prior to that. He was relatively unsuccessful until sophisticated people started coming to Chicago, from all over the world, for the exposition.

I've never heard of Mr. Weir.
