Boca Grande, FL Any must plays in the area?
« on: November 20, 2008, 04:52:54 PM »
I am leaving tomorrow afternoon to go to Boca Grande with my wife to see her parents.  Since we celebrate Thanksgiving w/ my family we always go the weekend before Turkey day to be with her family in Fla.

I will be there Tomorrow night, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning.

If I played golf my wife would probably kick the ever living dog shat out of me....literally she would......but that is another issue.....anyway...

Is there anything near that I must play; that may be worth a bunch of trouble?  All I see is Coral Creek, a Fazio (Tom) that looks nice and I could probably get on but it is no where near worth the trouble I would be in.

Anywhere I am not thinking of?

On a side not this is the 4th year I have been to Boca Grande w/ her family and still am not sure exactly where it is...call me geographically challenged; I was diagnosed w/ it...seriously it's not funny and ruined my first marriage  I kept going to the wrong woman's house and making love to her horse....that is another story entirely.

Kenny,
Pebble Beach.  ;D

Sorry. Closest to where you'll be are the Rotunda courses. They're playable and not hard to get to, although you'd better bring a map or you'll be going around in cirlcles all day.

Is the Gasparilla Inn nearby? Pete Dye reworked their course a few years ago. If it's open to non guests or you can pull some strings it may be worth a shot.

Del Boca Vista is usually a fun round.  Highly recommended  ;D

I'd play Gasparilla if you can (think you have to stay at the Inn or know a local member).  It's funky and it would be interesting to see what Dye did with that constricted bit of property.  My favorite shot there was the cut the dog-leg 3-wood over the patio near the inn.  I doubt if it survived (it was too goofy even for Dye).

I usually play at Lemon Bay when I'm there because it's my sister's club and the price is right.  It's an OK round of golf but not overly challenging or interesting.  Lots of nice flora and fauna, however, if you are into that sort of thing.  Usually well-conditioned with fast (for Florida) greens.

With respect, when you go to Boca Grande you should focus on spending your time off the island not on it.  If you can't get the grand slam try for the trash can slam! Rent a boat or get a guide.  Good luck with the iguanas!

Jim, I haven't been there in 15 years or so. But you would risk marital strife to play Rotunda? Or are you just willing to let Kenny risk it?  ;)

Andy,
I'm one of the lucky ones, my wife never minds it when I head to the golf course.  ;)

Actually, I thought he was joking around a bit so I figured the perfect place to send him was up to Rotunda, especially because he said he was geographically challenged.

I think a good slogan for that neighborhood would be:

Hey, Bruttha!

It's Parodi (as in that fine Pennsylvanian ceegar) , and it was YOU who started this enforcing of "real" names.  Talk to your pals Ran and Ben if you want Jean-Paul to be reborn.....

Yeah, that matches my memory of the place.  If he got lost long enough his wife might start to worry and he'd be off the hook.

PS You married well  ;)
