This is either going to be some ground breaking stuff or just a bunch of people getting their photo taken in front of the clubhouse!

Very interesting, Sean.

There's a rumour that a motion picture of Ross at Essex -- across the river from Detroit, in Windsor ON Canada -- exists as well. This footage was reportedly taken during construction of the Essex course, c. 1928. Apparently, the person in possession of this film offered it to Essex Golf and Country Club several years before I wrote the club history, published in early 2002, in exchange for a "lifetime membership"!

The club passed on this offer; but, needless to say, I've been curious about its authenticity. I've tried to find this person/film over the past five years and more, but haven't had any success.

What a shame! I was planning a short research trip to D.C. a couple of weeks ago when I was planning a drive to New York & then changed my mind at the last minute and flew. If I had known I would have driven & checked it out for you!

This type of reference is always the worst... Knowing what it's supposed to be and wondering what you might find.

In the same vein there are two Tilly movies out there that can't be found & I would love to see. The first is a movie done professionally and filmed of the Opening Day at Winged Foot and contains a 15+ minute interview with Tilly himself! It is buried in the archives of the NYAC (any members on here who don't know about this email me for confirmation) and has yet to be found.

The other is a home movie that Tilly took himself in 1933 of a young pro from Texas named Ben Hogan. Hogan had visited Tilly's home in harrington Park and Tilly made a short series of films of his swing which he then developed and they pored over together frame-by-frame. It must have helped because Hogan first qulified to play in the U.S. Open in 1934! Maybe his "secret" was Tilly all along! I have very little hope of ever seeing this as it most likely went up in flames with everything else in the 1950's with the fire that took his peronal papers, drawings, etc...

I will pass this onto to Mark when things settle down in the economy! I posted it out of the interest that people had of your DGC find on another thread, maybe someone needs to contact the club about this. As for the Vanderbilt course, it would be rather interesting to see what they captured on film there, any idea on who may have designed the course?

Not sure if it was missed or didn't warrant a reply, I had a link at the bottom of my first post to an article about the resurrection of a golf course just recently opening. Not sure if it was the same course, hoping that someone would have some more info on it. It isn't very often that a NLE golf course of any kind is brought back to life!
