I am currently working on Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs, CO and it was designed by Willie Campbell in 1898.  It is the third oldest public course west of the Mississippi.

Sounds like a fun project Kevin.....is much, if any, of the original architecture still present?

Do you happen to know the other two front-runners for the "oldest publics west of the Mississippi"?

Fairfield Golf and Country Club in Fairfield Iowa is a 9 hole course built in 1892.  It (like many others) claims to be the oldest course west of the Mississippi.

Not the oldest but not far behind - Jamestown (RI) Golf  - public built in 1895.

The Oldest Course West of the Mississippi is Town & Country in St. Paul, Mn.  1887. If I recall also an original member of the USGA. Designed by Robert Foulis who then went on to design the first 9 at The Minikahda Club in 1898.  White Bear Yacht Club was in 1892?  I believe.

According to the Pebble Beach Company:

Recent research (2020-2021) has established that there was not a Dutcher course until 1901. VanCortlandt Park is 1895.
