Well, if you're going to look at Hole No. 2, I think we like the angle from the current tee. I don't know if it was exactly an original position. We kind of like to play the golf courses the original way the architect intended.-Tim Morghan

What a contradicition of terms!

It's Tim Moraghan, not Morghan. Why is that a contradiction, Tommy? He's referring to a preference for playing it pure. But he's also acknowledging that's how the found the course.

USGA did absolutely nothing to the golf course. Prairie Dunes superintendent P. Stan George doesn't even stimp the course. So the USGA is playing the course the way they found it - for a change. Why can't they occasionally get the credit they deserve?

Brad, Correct, He has not ordered anything done to the Prarie Dunes--thankfully, but what about Riviera where this attitude seemed to be completely ignored?

I will hold further comment on Tim Moraghan (spelling was from USGA website where it was copied) because I don't personally know him. However, I think there is some merit that 4.5 inch rough was not in Perry Maxwell's vision either.)

Just my take.

Tommy, he called PD one of the ten best courses in the world in his interview, maybe he only thinks that such a gem shouldn't be messed with :)

Brad Klein is right, we should give the USGA credit when credit is due and bringing this Open to PD and not messing with the course is deserving of such.

Let's see, Tim wants to play the course the way the architect intended. Hmmm...well he did say "kind of like" to play them that way, that's a wise move on is part. Maybe that's why Riviera is adding things at his request, elements of the design that never existed before (again, these fall into the "kind of" part).

BradM, if Prairie Dunes was hosting a Men's Open, not a Women's, Tim or Tom Meeks would have left their mark in ways that had nothing to do with common sense or original design intent. Sorry to be such a cynic in view of his kind remarks about the course (but I suspect he raved about Caves Valley too...), however, their track record is consistent. No classic course should ever listen to the USGA when it comes to architecture and the original intent of the old guys, assuming they would like to remain faithful to their original design.

Brad:

In TommyN's post I don't think he really meant to say or imply " What a contradiction in terms" (regarding what Moraghan said about PD). I think TommyN meant to say, "What a switch" vs what Moraghan may have done or recommended while at Riviera.
