I have thought about using ditches as a hazard on a couple of our courses, but I shied away from it for the same reason both times ... mosquitoes like ditches even more than golfers do.

Someone mentioned a haha.  When I think of a haha I usually think of a road beyond it.  I guess it could hide a ditch.  Also, most of the ditches I am thinking of would not necessarily hold water (similar to the ditches at Oakmont).  They would carry it away or simply act as an asthetically appealing open drain.  I was just out at Oakmont last week.  We teed off at 8:00 AM and they had 1 1/2 inches of rain the night before.  There was no standing water in any of the ditches (at least all the ones we looked at).  I think almost all of the time they are dry.  As I said in my first post, Forrest and I are going to use quite a few on this current project.
