If Not For Golf Architecture...
« on: April 25, 2008, 10:20:03 AM »
I'd quit playing.  My game has detiorated so badly and I cannot shake the pitching yips.  It's the architecture that keeps me going.

Anyone relate?

I think most of us that are working in the business feel the same.  I would love to pay more and am depressed when offers to play come along, but know that it is too difficult to stomach.

Unlike everyone it seems that contacts us for a position, I didn't get into the field to play more/keep playing golf.

Mike,

Until you love the game don't waste our time telling us where to play.  It tastes like asking a porn addict who to marry.

If you want to get over your chipping yips and truly play the ground game just purchase one of these.. http://www.golfsmith.com/products/OD6010?PHPSESSID=2815336321497ff014588f85de8aae13

Barney - I just saw your game last Friday.  You just need to play 4 hole and then start you 18 hole round.  I thought you played well after the 1st few holes.

I've only seen one that really stinks...but I seen a lot of really good ones...

Joey,

Friday I played a respectably difficult course in a "tournament" and was 2 under after four holes on my way to a five over round.  Obesity breeds fatigue.  If Hendren is going around the golfing world masquerading as Barney there will be Hillbilly hell to pay.

not sure if the yips is worse than my problem: swing thought.

my one and only swing thought occurs at the top of my backswing, "I have no idea where this ball is going."  Not good.

regardless,  i still enjoy playing.... 'good' architecture or not.

Dear Low Handicapper,

Your advantage is that you are able to put the thought off until you reach the top of your backswing.

The rest of us have the thought before beginning to swing.

Sincerely,

High Handicapper

This will sound so stupid and 'high handicapperish' but I was gonna suggest a chipper for the short term...I have been known to carry one from time to time and it gets me through the low spots in my game.  Not sure I'd spend $100+ for the same club that you can pick up in a used bin for $10, though.

I am new to understanding architecture and the history of the game.  I used to just be a point-and-shoot guy but now I take time to try to understand what the designer was thinking.  Looking back, I wasted a lot of my 20+years of golf on some great courses not fully appreciating the art.
