Buy Your Next Design On EBay
« on: November 16, 2007, 11:00:12 PM »
At least that seems to be what this auction is for. Buy the services of Andy Johnson (anyone heard of him) for $107,000.

The eBay auction is here: http://tinyurl.com/27wyey

Does anyone actually search eBay for their course designer?

"Does anyone actually search eBay for their course designer?"

I can't imagine anybody doing so but it is a cheap way to advertise and perhaps get more hits on search engines.

He has a long list of involvements* posted on his website - mostly in Colorado and Utah areas.

 * I'm unsure of whether these involvements are actual accomplishments.

BTW as of one minute ago, he'd had 938 hits. Not bad.

This is a neat idea, if not for this auction would we even be discussing Andy Johnson?

The  Ebay listing shows the s. card for Saddleback in CO. It's about 1/2 hour N. of Denver towards F. Collins. Fun design that will be even better when the trees give more definition to the routing. Interesting use of the water features, and some serious risk/reward holes... If that's a good example of his work, he definitely has some talent!  ;)

I think I'd like more information under his "Portfolio" section, to see exactly what he means by some entries. For example, there is this listing:

Colorado National Golf Club, Colorado
Furnishing complete golf course design services for the construction and  grow-in of a new, championship 18-hole golf course.

Now, CGC is a C&C design. It would be interesting to know what work Andy Johnson did on this course, in more specific terms. He may have done a lot, I'm not saying that he didn't (since I don't know); but the way it sounds in that entry is that he designed the course on the ground, and that doesn't fit with my understanding.

Kirk -

I have a feeling that Colorado National Golf Club is still an idea in the works, whereas Colorado Golf Club is the new C & C design near Parker that you're referencing. TOUGH course, BTW. From the looks of his portfolio, he has done a lot of work for master plans, etc. but I think Saddleback is the only design of his that has been put to land and is open for business. I may be mistaken, but none of the other courses referenced in his portfolio (in CO) are open that I am aware of... The Club at Winter Park is funny as I have a place in WP and have never heard of this course... There was a 9 hole club that went under after the routing but prior to grow-in, but other than that I am at a loss... ;)
