I am gong to throw out a suggestion - it is unrealistic, outrageous and yet another example of my inability to grasp what psychologists refer to as the: "Theory of the Mind."
If everyone can just take an extra day (i.e. fly into SFO Thursday night), the ultimate gathering place for the Treehouse (read: remote enough to avoid violating any local laws regarding disturbing the peace or drunk and disorderly conduct) is Sea Ranch.
Yes, 2 1/2 hours from SFO. On the coast, delightfully fun to play and as an added bonus, a warm-up nine at Northwood in Guerneville. For all your Mackenzie sycophants, this is a "must-see," especially for Wayne Morrison; all those indulgent and poorly arranged bunkers have been filled in.
Getting to SLO-Town airport involves a short-hop connection for all but us CA boys. So, time-wise, it seems more rational to take advantage of major airports and blast up the coast from there.
Perhaps a silly idea . . . . .
Now, for an equally absurd notion: I'm fairly impressed by a couple of courses in the East Bay - both of which are a short drive from Oakland Airport.
Metropolitan Club is right outside the entrance to OAK and a pretty decent golf course. My friend is the president of the managing company, a Macdonald freak and might even be coaxed into joining us. For convenience, it cannot be beat - since fellowship is the *real* objective.
I'm also quite fond of Harbottle's Monarch Bay - just a short distance away. This may not float all boats as the only person at the KP at Stevinson Ranch who loves the golf course seemed to be me.
If we decide to venture to the southland and not return to Rustic, is Coronado GC a possibility? It is not great, but the location is spectacular . . . . . .
