SWWG - Royal Melbourne - Thompson v. Player
« on: August 15, 2007, 04:43:26 PM »
Course looks very interesting. They referred more than once to Thompson's four Open Championships which sounds funny in retrospect.

They also referred to both players using the "small English ball". Not sure what that means.

One of the spectators is wearing a pocket square which i don't think i've ever seen on a course before.

Prior to 1974(???) the USA played the current 1.68" size ball, the UK played the 1.62" ball.  Somewhere around 1974, and others will be more certain of the year, the UK adopted the 1.68" sized ball.

r,
The course is very interesting, unfortunately I live too far away to see it enough times in my life to unlock its secrets.

So, in other words, Thomson hadn't won any 'REAL' majors yet. ;D
