Chicago Golf Club
« on: June 26, 2007, 12:23:46 PM »
I have a good friend who will be playing both Chicago Golf and Shoreacres soon - lucky bastard! Can anyone steer me to past photos or threads that do them justice? I remember one thread in particular that displayed images of Chicago Golf prior to the Walker Cup matches last summer. They were terrific.

How do I find that thread?

I don't believe it was so much an actual thread, as it may have been a link to Frank Pont's wonderful website which is a clearing house for many, many pictures of different courses, of which Chicago GC is one.  They are indeed taken during the Walker Cup time....

Happy searching!

I look forward to seeing those pictures Trey...two great coureses that I have heard a lot about, but never seen.  I always kick myself for not going out to watch the Walker Cup when I lived up there.

I definitely would've gone to the Walker Cup at Chicago Golf Club, since I live about 5 minutes from the course.  But if I remember correctly, the USGA was charging around $60 for tickets for each day.  That's pretty steep for a bunch of amateurs.

the program from the walker cup has some photos of each hole with descriptions -if you can find a copy and the club has a book that came out in 1992 to commemorate their 100th anniversary- there were more tress then than at present but some nice photos nonetheless.

looks much better in person than the photos

Here are 2 pictures from the day I played Chicago Golf Club.  It was in early April of 2005 and if you will notice the native had been burned off during the off season in preparation for the upcoming golf season.  The course was spectacular and I can only imagine how great it would be with the natives grown up.

The first picture is the Biarritz hole #3 looking back at the tee and Clubhouse.

The second picture is the Redan hole #7.

All I can say about the place is amazing!  Michael tell your friend to walk through the clubhouse and locker room.  This is a special place, it is a must play if you can get on!

I have more pictures, so if anyone would like to see let me know.  I also have pictures from Shore Acres whch I will try to post on a seprate thread in the next few days.

Michael: Go to -  www.shoreacres1916.com/treeprogram/12h.htm for some great pics, but also for a great walk through of a tree removal program.  Great stuff!!!

I asked a while ago what happened to the combined review of Chicago Golf and Mid Ocean which used to be available on the site. It was a nice comparison of cousin courses by Raynor/CBM which rest on very different terrain. I hope Ran is updating both reviews.

Tommy, can you hear me?

Ken:

I've noticed that as well, along with the Myopia Hunt Club review and perhaps others. I just do a "golfclubatlas" and "whatevercourse" google search and it sends you to the hidden recesses of GCA for the course reviews, still intact.
