RNK Pics and thought on the VSGA
« on: May 20, 2007, 03:50:07 PM »
I got a new digital camera for Christmas and finally got around to figuring out downloading and uploading today. Earlier today I was at Royal New Kent and snapped these pics. What surprised me about these pics is that they were all taken in a five minute period and how quickly the sky had changed

The first two are of the ninth hole. The last two pics are of the first hole.

Another thought I have is that the Virginia State Golf Association is doing a great job growing and promoting the game. This in addition to all of the functions most golf associations do such as tournaments, handicapping, rating, supporting member clubs, etc. I recently moved to the Richmond area and have been able to get out to the course owned by the VSGA, Independence Golf Club, four times this year.

I don't know if most state golf associations develop and operate courses but Independence is first rate. There's a 18 hole full length Fazio course and a short nine hole par three course. Kids can play the nine hole course for $1 each with an adult. Walking is allowed at all times on the full size course.

My eight and ten year old boys are in a clinic program that will last six hours over two days at a real reasonable rate. Additionally they have cottages for kids doing boarding camps in the summer. There are also many day camps during the year.

Hi Bill,

I suspect there are limited permissions on access to your pictures, because they do not show up on my computer even though you have entered the proper codes to make them appear.

Wonderful golf course, a "must play" in my handbook :)
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta
