Please use GCA as the forum to communicate your progress in forming the society.  I'm especially interested in what insights you get from Messrs. Klein and Wolffe.

I can't speak for him, but I'll bet Ran will view the successful launch of a Flynn Society as one of the most important results of GCA!

You're in the Philly area, right?  Hope to get together sometime soon.  GCA is a great place to have fun, learn, and perhaps more importantly, get things done.  I hope Ran puts his good sense in.  This forum has been a huge help to the Flynn book project and if it gets a Flynn Society going that will be awesome!

Has anyone been able to contact the Ross Society lately.  I have no working numbers and email goes unanswered to Michael Fay.

Brad Klein is not the curator of the DRS, but he helped get it started, and we have contact with him here.  I'm sure he'd be willing to share his thoughts.

If I have to  ;) I'll consider participating!  One of my ideas for Lehigh is to build a par three course on our adjoining 60 acres of land.  It would be designed as a tribute to Flynn and incorporate many of his design concepts from his greatest greensites around the country.  I'm sure this organization could be of assistance here in any number of ways.

I have never played a Flynn course and doubt if there are any in Indiana, but would be willing to chip in.  I am also wondering about the possibilities of a Maxwell society down the road.  I think both could be very beneficial with such a core group of courses that are in approximate vacinity of each other.  Dunlop White can possibly provide some info on the DRS as he is on the board.  I can try him.

'Bout time we heard from you!  What a great concept, a par 3 course at Lehigh with homages to Flynn.  His par 3s are often all-world and I'm sure you'll make sure a par 3 course at LCC will be as well!  You'll be an integral part of whatever this Society turns out to be.  Let's make sure it happens.

Maxwell Society....you'll have to open the meetings with a silver hammer.  That sounds like a great idea.  Please contact Mr. White, perhaps he can help us.  No Flynn in Indiana, you are correct but you have some great golf and you can always start the local chapter of the Flynn Society.

I just stumbled across GCA for the first time.  At the sight this thread about a William Flynn Society, I registered for GCA immediately!  Count me in.
I'm a member of a little known Flynn gem in Annapolis, The US Naval Academy Golf Club.  I've also had the good fortune to play the Cascades, one of the finest/best tests of golf anywhere.  Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of Mr. Flynn's work and would love to learn more!  I can think of many fellow members of USNA GC that would agree.

Wayne, I'll volunteer as the Missouri delegate!  I assume there's no Flynn courses (including revisions?) in this neck of the woods.  I'll be in Chicago in early October for a meeting, I believe you said there are some examples of his work in the area...let me know so I can try to work in a game while I'm there.

Welcome aboard.  Tom Paul and I are planning to be in the MD/DC area to check out Flynn's work there.  Craig Disher at Manor is looking into materials for the USNA.  I have some original drawings by JB McGovern (formerly with Donald Ross) for an Army and Navy Country Club in Arlington, VA but I doubt it was built.  As for Flynn at the USNA, alas nothing.  But I am hoping that Craig can locate some materials.  Trueman, perhaps you and other members can help out and see what is available.

This is my twin brother in St. Louis.  He is a member of Algonquin, a turn of the century gem in suburban StL. and the man that turned me on to GCA.  You are, of course, most welcome.  We can always use a transplanted Philadelphian to help out.  Glen View is Flynn's only existing course in the true mid-west.  We are obtaining valuable info on a NLE at the Lasker estate known as Mill Road Farm.  Perhaps you can be of some assistance.  I'll get back to you before you go to Chicago.  Let me know when you'll be out this way next month, the elbow is starting to feel a bit better but the swing is nowhere to be found!

Make sure if you come out to Chicago's Glen View Club to look at the acrylic plans of Flynn's redesign which lay over an aerial of the course. The Flynn plans ( in the Super's office ) were not exactly followed. Looked like some of his best ideas were not followed. Good luck on your continued efforts.

I'd like to call it "The William Flynn Club" and we'll even designate it a "private status" entity! "Society" has negative connotations to me.

And our "William Flynn Club" will even offer that oddball Martha Burk access to membership provided she pays the $395,000 initiation fee (that the club has the option of waiving for certain members--like all of them except her)!

That way we'll really see how interested she is in this "freedom of association" thing whether it be legal or moral and how truly democratic representation in America works!

She might even learn a thing or two about golf and architecture.

Ed,
What's taking you so long to play a Flynn course.  I know you're out in CA, but you must get out to Denver CC or Cherry Hills, then Glen View in Illinois if not working yourself all the way to the east coast for a heavy dose of Flynn.  Of course appreciation for, not playing Flynn courses, is the key to entry....so welcome to the Society.

Formalizing the plans; that's gonna take a lot of time and effort.  I'm sure that we can mobilize everyone interested to help out.  The family, the 8 to 5, and the book project keep me busy, but the Society will happen!

As a former caddie at Manufacturers G&CC in Oreland, PA I have long been infatuated with Flynn designs. ;D Mannys is probably still my favorite course to play on a regular basis. Several of my other Flynn Philly favs are Rolling Green, Philmont, Lancaster, Philly CC (I loved the renovations when I played team matches this spring), Lehigh, and Huntingdon Valley.  I enjoyed the Pines Course at Seaview prior to Marriott's re-destruction. :-/

does this membership into this society allow for access to exlcusive country clubs? if so is one going to be able to play shinnecock, huntingdon valley, pine valley, and merion as well as get reduced green fees?
