I had the privilege of playing this course twice yesterday (a cold day for 36!) and, IMO, this would score pretty darn high on the Doak scale. Nice routing, great diversity and greens that really can be challenging (particularly when they are running "fall" fast her in Southestern Pennsylvania). Don't pass up the opportunity to play if you are given the chance.

Dan- I played it over a year ago with one of our GCAers and was very impressed as well.  I particularly enjoyed the back nine which had some terrific par 4's.  The only hole I had a problem with was the first-  downhill with a creek right in front of the green which is pretty skinny.  Other than that there is a lot of challenge, beauty, and variety. It is definitely worth playing if you have a chance.

Glad you enjoyed your day at WM.  The greens are in the best shape they have been in probably ever right now, so its a good time to play.

there are so many great courses in philadelphia that we may fly under the radar a little bit, but the work bobby has done has made the course a  ton of fun to play.

are you still upset about hitting that shot into the creek on #1 almost two years ago  from what i rememeber you had a pretty nice round going sans 1.

Jason-  I'm over it.......................   but not really. Didn't you say that you wanted them to flip the nines?  Maybe as the 10th hole it wouldn't bother me so much.

bobby weed wants to flip the nines eventually, although i'm not really in agreement with it.  there hasn't been much talk of it, so i doubt it will happen but you never know.

The one problem I would have with switching the 9's would be to lose 17 ... a strong risk/reward hole late in the round. -Dan

Dan,

I agree losing 17 would be a big problem.  As a whole I think 16-17-18 is a much better finish than 7-8-9, where although the holes are good holes, there is not quite the same demand on your game as is the case with the current finishing holes.

1 would work as a good 10th hole, but I don't think 10 would be a great 1st hole, because of the OB on the left.

At first I agreed with the comments about #1 but it really is not that hard of a hole until you get on the green.  Most people are hitting a mid to short iron into that green and if not you can not hit it on most par 4s in two anyway so just deal.

In an era when everyone is talking about restoration what White Manor did was bold and the net improvement is increadible.  Some would call this a renovation but it was really a teardown.
