looking forward to your pics Lawrence...played there during my honeymoon 18 years ago

Mr. Doak has redone all the greens since then, I believe
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

Try to arrange a round with the Chief Justice of the island, a most delightful man and a keen golfer.

Mid-O is a delightful course. Don't miss lunch at the halfway shack.

Extra points if you can pick out the RTJ holes.

I can't wait for the pictures either. MOC was one of my best golf experiences to this date. As Bob suggests, the halfway house is very nice indeed; and the service is exceptional.

I would be curious to see what, if any, work was done to #7 (short).

Ask for Graham (like the cracker) for your caddie -- a very interesting gentleman indeed.

Bermuda's Royal Gazette reports today that the Mid Ocean Club is quite close to securing the PGA Grand Slam tournament for 2007 and 2008...

Does anyone know if the original Shell's World of Golf filmed a match at the Mid Ocean Club?

Lawrence:

I'm happy to report that there are no "TD holes" to pick out.

However, we did alter four of the greens slightly in the reconstruction.  See if you can guess which they were (if no one told you).  I'd like to gauge how well the changes fit in.

According to Shell's website, there was indeed a match filmed at Mid-Ocean, 1967 Peter Alliss vs. Tony Lema.  There's a blue star next to it on the list, but I don't know what that means...

I thought Tony Lema died in '66.

Tom

Lema did die in '66 but they played the tape after he died.
I have a copy of the match - Peter Allis might have had the worst case of the yips ever - except for Bernhard Langer of course.

As far as the yips go, my nominee would be Johnny Miller, against Nicklaus at the Olympic Club, relatively recently (late 1990s).  That was embarassing.

Tim

I saw Langer at The Belfry once hit a 2 iron to four feet on 18 and hit it twenty feet past.
I did hear Miller was awful on that tape

Mike,

That indeed would take some twitchy nerves.  It's amazing that Langer has had the career he's had with that kind of putting history.  All credit to him.
