Tutorial needed, technology enhanced GCA.com
« on: September 29, 2006, 03:53:34 PM »
Ryan Simper's posting of the video clip of Dubuque slasher remains a classic GCA posting.

Could one of you techie geniuses post a detailed tutorial on how one downloads a clip like that and then puts it up on GCA.com?  I have a few digital mini-micro sony videos of stuff on golf courses (gca'ers swinging away at famous holes, etc.)  I would like to know how to post them.  I never have known how to download or edit them.  And I haven't yet bought a DVD recorder, but will shortly.  Can someone just describe what software is needed and how you do this video embedding-posting.  I really think it could be a great boon to posting, if the clips are kept short enough not to clutter or time consume (say 15-20 seconds) and long enough to show perhaps a zoom view of the hole starting wide and then zooming down hole corridors to greens and hazard features.  That extra dimension may just raise GCA postings to a new level of enjoyment.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

You might have heard of Youtube, where you can upload vidoes on the web.

They have a tutorial which answer a lot of the stuff that you are wondering: http://www.youtube.com/t/help_makevideo

And this page guides you on how to embed videos on a external site: http://www.youtube.com/sharing

Mine was done thusly:

Sign up for a site like photobucket.com

Photobucket has several tabs (Photos, Video, etc)

For Video, it lets you browse and upload to their server, just as you would with a photograph.

Photobucket makes it VERY easy to embed...when it's in your gallery, below there are three fields - URL, IMG, and embed.  For this site, you need the IMG field.

Simply cut and paste the entire IMG link as it has pre-set the coding for you to place it in your post.

In the body of your post as you type it, it will look something like this:

{IMG}www.photobucket.com/video/RJDaley/WildHorse_Lizard_Chase_09.18.06.mpeg{/IMG}

But the {s would be replaced by [s

(Don't worry too much - photobucket puts them in there for you)

Give it a shot!

Yes, like Ryan Simper, I use Photobucket too (for pictures, not video).  Just get the photos up there, copy the IMG link, and paste that into your post, and voila pictures (and apparently video too - cool).

Don't worry about any extra characters, just copy and paste.  It helps to have photobucket and gca open at the same time, but you guys would know that.

RJ,

I use Adobe Premiere Elements to manipulate any video/slide show/active presentation items.  It allows me to overdub sound, edit, and annotate.  It’s pretty easy to get the hang of as well.  You can host the items anywhere.
I'd almost bet you have a site like http://www.new.rr.com/~rjdaley/home or something that you don't even know about.  By the way, be sure to check your mailbox Monday or Tuesday ;)!

Cheers!

Thanks for the tips gents.  Jim, I assume that the Adobe program is the way you get the video clips from your camera into or onto your home hard drive?  Then from there, you go to photobucket... is that right?  I'm a reluctant reader of all that techie stuff that comes with the electronic toys.  You are probably correct and I need to see what software came with the camera, or what I can buy to download to my home PC in the first place.  Then, as you all describe, it must be pretty easy to make clips like on YTube.  I do have some nice ones of AC, Jimbo. ;D

I just can't believe more of you adept internet guys aren't already doing this more on GCA.com... :D

RJ,

I just plug my camera into the USB cabble that came withit and the Sony software "downloads" it into a file on my PC.  I then open it with the Adobe Premiere elements and edit, clip, voice over, doodle, etc...  It really is pretty easy.  I can use the adobe to download the clips also, but ittakes more steps to get from camera to hard drive so I just skip that part.  The adobe does have it own "organizer"  that would be pretty cool if you had a poor memory.

Good Luck!

I went the photobucket route the other day and posted my first pictures, so that's step 1.

Step 2 is to get the pictures to appear within the thread as pictures as real opposed to a url.

How do you do that?
THE NEXT SEVEN:  Alfred E. Tupp Holmes Municipal Golf Course, Willi Plett's Sportspark and Driving Range, Peachtree, Par 56, Browns Mill, Cross Creek, Piedmont Driving Club

read the above, it is that easy.  to repeat, click into the IMG link on photobucket below the photo you want posted (you may need to page down on photobucket to find your picture), right click your mouse and select copy, go to the text of your GCA post, start a new line, right click your mouse again and select paste.

voila, it is that simple.
