I'm beginning to think there is no such thing as a "good" or "bad" match play course...for the best players in the world.

What makes for exciting match play, at least on TV?  Great approach shots; long putts going in; unbelievable escapes; terrible shots; unlikely hole-outs; comebacks from large deficits.  All of these will be produced by the pros on most any course.  None of those guys are going to be playing the ground game on classic courses anyway.

Come to think of it, I might believe the same is the case for the major championships...

 Ken,

You are probably correct. If I see some of the shots that I like and John K sees some that he likes then it is a success.

Mayday,
You should join the K Club ASAP.  Join the green committee and bring your chainsaw.

Can you imagine what those trees will look like in 10 years?

 Dan,

My bet is that they will begin to take them out soon .

Give me a break on the trees...They like em in Ireland.  I got that water was a river..quite different than a borrow site that fills up because you build in a swamp.

I really don't care whether they remove those silly trees or not but I bet they will because the average golfer will not put up with them. They were only planted for the Cup.

Let me put it this way: I find the K Club to be a FAR more interesting Ryder Cup course than the Belfry is/was, which had two interesting matchplay holes (10 and 18) and a lot of dogs on either side of them. And I'm looking forward to the next European PGA Tour event at the K Club on this course, simply because it is seems rather more interesting than most of the mindless, brainless Tour venues on either side of the ocean.

If you can't distinguish between "Tour" architecture and proper golf course architecture in this context, I daresay you've been hanging around this site for too long... ;)

Cheers,
Darren
