For me:

1.  U.S. Open
2.  British Open
3.  Masters
4.  PGA

These have changed through time.  e.g. from around 1931 to 1960, I would not have ranked the British Open very high.  The field was not that great, as most top players did not take part.

1.  Ryder Cup
2.  Masters
3.  (The) Open
4.  Q-School
5.  Open (National Championship)
6.  PGA

Move the PGA back to match play, as many of us have been saying over the years, and it moves up the charts with a bullet.

As for our National Championship, I say, if you want to see people sweating bullets in stroke play, watch the Q-School where it really means something.  I didn't see a single stroke of Winged Foot live, and I don't particulalry regret it.

Dunno, Mark.  All I do know is that he's still well behind Larry Nelson. ;)

As a fan, this is my majors.

1. The Open
2. U.S. Open
3. Masters
4. PGA
5. Ryder Cup
6. The Players' Championship
7. Match Play Championship
8. U.S. Women's Open
9. U.S. Am
10 U.S. Women's Am
11. Walker Cup / Solheim Cup / Curtis Cup
[I wish The Amateur Championship was televised.]

If I was a pro my rankings would be as follows:
1. U.S. Open
(How can one not want to win their national championship?)
2. The Open
3. Masters
4. PGA
5. Ryder Cup
6. The Players' Championship
7. Match Play Championship / World Match Play
(And how can one not want to win one of the premiur match play events.)

how can you guys say bring match play back to the PGA.  Have you watched the match play at Lacosta recently.  Those are some of the biggest snooze fests of all time.  Especially on sunday even if you do have decent guys playing you only have 4 golfers to watch.

Nick,

The paradox of match play is that it is much more exciting than medal play during the early rounds, then loses steam when you reach the weekend.  The first couple of days at La Costa are always great, but the television audience is small because people have to work.  32 decisions that first day - action all over the course.  Great for tv, just like the singles at the Ryder Cup.  But there's no one to watch.
