The Mashburn brothers
« on: June 08, 2005, 12:27:05 AM »
Does anyone know anything about these two guys from the old country that some say were the best builders Donald Ross ever had? I understand their bunker work could be considered somewhat different from the restored Ross bunkers we are seeing today.

I've never heard of them. Where do you learn about the brothers Mashburn?

Pete Dye was big on them as factors in Ross' more successful courses. They built Broadmoor in Indianapolis, for example, but obviously not French Lick Springs. They were from Aberdeen, NC, as I recall, and came to Ross by way of Frank Maples in the 1920s.

I don't know anything about them and was hoping to find out more. As Brad pointed out, Tim Liddy and Pete Dye are fans of the work they did for Ross at Broadmoor (IN.).
My interest is in the style of bunkering the brothers had, which could be very different from the grass faces we are seeing today on many restorations.
I've never seen any of their works.
