Huck,

How many courses did you play this year...as a guest?  I thought Jim Franklin said he's played something like 100 courses (and a bunch of GREAT ones!!)...can you top that?

I can't come close to that, my life realities don't come close to allowing such.  All hail Mr. Franklin!

TH

ps to Dale - that was kinda odd, Mr. Positive Love Everything me getting into arguments where I am in the one criticizing a golf hole... but I will take to my grave that #10 WFW is a good, just not great, golf hole, not even the best par 3 on the course not to mention not belonging in discussions of best in the world.

Seriously, I hope everyone realizes that I'm only having fun here by taking a bit of silliness and stereotyping to its logical conclusion and I certainly don't want to offend anyone.  Under no circumstances should anyone actually think my little satire is serious or ill-meaning, and tolerance is something we should all practice more of in our real lives.

Noted.

Tiny, hard-to-find flagsticks, a focus on hole internals and the short game, close-cropped rough, and the permitted use of artificial devices.

Don't worry Adam, they wouldn't allow you to anyway! ;)

Perhaps design will continue to return to more "DeGeneres" fairway widths. ;D

I'd like to nominate PATRICK of MUCCI for an award for something in 2004 but for the life of me I can't figure out exactly what it should be for.

Can I throw the nomination of PATRICK to be nominated for SOMETHING out to the floor?

We could nominate Patrick for the Anti-TEP award ;).  Oh and we could just as easily nominate Tom for the Anti-Patrick award ;D
Best,
Dave

How about...

Patrick Mucci:  CGA's "QUESTIONER" of the year.  From what I've seen, you better have your facts straight or Mr. Mucci will take you down. >:(

Jamie -
I'm afraid that you have your facts wrong on this one. Pat's tirades have nothing to do with facts, and everything to do with whether or not he agrees with you.

I won't dispute that he is the questioner of the year (based on sheer volume), but in the year ahead I'm hoping for a real improvement in answering questions. I won't hold my breath, though, enough has already been wasted.  ;D

Hard to argue with Ian's very thorough and well thought out list.

Minor disagreement (and only really on a technicality at that): I kinda think Martin Bonnar has been around awhile, primarily as the poster formerly known as FBD (FatBaldyDrummer). Therefore I nominate Tripp Davis for Newcomer of the Year.

Inspiring Photo(s) of the Year - Gotta be the photos of my baby down in Tasmania. They sent my $$$ back, but kept my heart. :) Runner-up photos would probably be the photos of and relating to Painswick GCA Ryder Cup, particularly the ones of the quirky course that Paul Turner and Noel Freeman visited (name escapes me).

Trip I am saddest to have missed out on - The Banff trip narrowly edges out the Painwick GCA Ryder Cup trip - very narrowly.

Best non-GCA threads of 2004 - All the new dads in the first quarter of the year. I hope Jeff Fortson, Michael Moore and Daryl Boe are having as much fun as me. Didn't really get out much this year, due to a multitude of personal reasons, but I barely even missed the game. This site helped get me through the days, too. Here's to teeing it up with my little guy someday in the not too distant future.

Posters most sorely missed in 2004 - I mean this is the best possible way - I hope our founders join us more often in 2005. Sometimes we need a little guidance. :)

Big drivers and hot balls are the product of golf course design that rewards the hit one far then hit one high strategy.  Shinny showed everyone how to take care of this whole technology dilemma. - Pat Brockwell, 6/24/04
