Was just in the desert last week. Comming from the snowy north east, 4 days in the sun was just was the doctor ordered.

PGA West - Stadium
Desert Willow - Firecliff
Landmark North
Landmark South

All we're good. PGA West if you have not played it in the past is a must. Just to see what a guy like Pete Dye does when asked to build a tough, tough golf course. Actually it's not as difficult as it appears. if you stay away from places your not supposed to be in and play the correct tee's, you can get around somewhat unscathed.

Desert Willow - Firecliff was OK. Not the greatest, but had a few good par 3's Especially #17.

Landmark - A little remote, but an excellent place. The South course seemed to play tougher than the North. There was a very tight par 5 on the North that seemed very out of place. Most of the course is very wide off the tee, but this long Par 5 was incredible tight. Green complexes we're good had some very good movement. Would highly recomend a 36 hole day here.

We heard that Palmers place in La Quinta was very overrated. For steaks Sullivans was recomended to us, but we did not make it there. If you want Mexican must go to Los Casuelas in La Quinta. Great, great food service & atmosphere.

As for In N' Out, we found one 2 minutes from LAX. As an East Coaster, no trip to CA is complete w/out at least one stop at In N' Out!!

I might add to the list Nick Faldo's Shadow Ridge course at the Marriott.  Can be short if you don't play from the back tees, however, he offers quite a few strategic short par 4s, and lots of holes with central hazards.  Sort of what you would expect from a guy as analytical as Faldo.  At the end of the day it is still a resort course, however, I think it shows promise for Faldo as an architect.  

I would second Trilogy as being a real bore.  I can remember very few holes only two weeks removed from playing it.

I also enjoy Desert Willow - Firecliff.  Obviously not a minimalistic effort, but fun none the less.

Well said! I too read the article in WSJ. I travel and entertain a lot in my job. I love wine and have managed to put together a pretty decent cellar at home. To see some of the pedestrian selections on the wine lists at fairly prominent steakhouses at triple or more markup makes me cringe. I realize that most restaurants derive a majority of their profit from liquor and wine sales ( and I don't begrudge them that ) but to charge grossly inflated prices for mediocre wine is just plain gouging!!!!! Classic example: I was in a McCormack and Schmick's in Minneapolis recently and they had a Hogue Cellars ( Washington ) Cab/Merlot on the list at 32.00. This wine is actually a pretty decent "everyday red" that I have a couple of cases at home of. I purchased this wine at my local wine shop for 5.99 a bottle!!!! ( This means that the restaurant probably paid 3 to 4 dollars a bottle for this wine wholesale! )------Unbelievable!!!!!----------My advice is to take advantage of the corkage available at most better restaurants ( particularly in major metropolitan cities) and bring your own!

As one who travels alot, finding a good place to eat is tough. In the past I've used Road Food and it's pretty good. Not great on the high end, but good reasonable food it works well.
