Have no problem with your latest comments...and totally agree with the course being too soft for links style play.  We have been ripping ass all year to get the course hard and fast...excuses have been given from a new sprinkler system (over-watering) to humidity causing burn out.

As far as Yale, I respectfully disagree with the greens comments....but that is what the site is for....dicussing merits and agreeing or disagreeing.

Significant changes were made recently to Dev Emmet's work at Bedford Golf and Tennis Club. Some of the changes are alright, but some of them are, unfortunately, not. Anybody have any familiarity with this course? really good movement on an exqusite piece of rolling property.

Played two Devereux Emmet 9-Holers in North Central PA 10 days ago.  St. Mary's CC and Elk County CC.  

Of the two St. Mary's is definately the hidden gem although equipment has made it somewhat obsolete.  You can stretch the course out to about 3,050 par 36.  The hole course lays across a significant ridge on a hill.  #1, #8 & #9 are the longest holes on the course and they play esentially straight up/down the hill.  While holes #2-#7 are shorter play pretty much back and forth across a wee valley.  The most interesting features are the greens of which 5 are really an adventure to putt and chip on.

Elk CC looks like a project which DE may have provided a routing and assistance but likey did not actively participate in the construction process.  It also is on a much more bland piece of property.

Both courses are in ELK County PA.  Halfway between State College and Erie, North of I-80.  St Mary's is in the town of St. Mary's and Elk CCC is in Ridgeway.  They are only about 12 miles apart.

If you want to check out a Devereux Emmet course (or at least the one hole that is still his) on the cheap you can play Capitol Hills, temporarily named The New Course at Albany, and previously named Albany Muni in NY. Most of his design is gone, but I'm pretty sure #1 is mostly his.

It was my home course from '88 to '92.

Come to think of it I kind of miss the old course. Especially #6 which was a 150 yard par 3 where you had a carry over a ravine and if you came up short or right the ball would roll backwards about 50 yards into the ravine.

My humble attempt at a Doak rating would go something like this:

Old course: 2
New course: 2

Season pass in 1988? Approx $150.
