Lido Replica Course?
« on: March 20, 2003, 02:32:32 PM »
Excuse me while I dream a little.  Nevermind the Tour 18 and Bear's Best, a replica of Lido would do the golfing world a huge favor.

I have just made it through George Bahto's book on C.B. MacDonald and it has pretty much ruined the game of golf for me.  I liked it when it was a simple game, I enjoyed old Golden Age designs and that was enough. Now that I realize how much more there can be to golf I'm mad because there just aren't that many courses that reflect the National School of Design that I can play on.  No wonder there is so much pent up frustration on this website.

As far as pent-up frustration -

Golf is a game, and usually an enjoyable one.  Adding to my architectural knowledge is one way I increase my enjoyment of the game.  If it became frustrating for me to play, I would probably find a new hobby.

I floated this idea on here a few months ago.   I think that something like the Montauk Downs property might be a great location for a recreation of Lido. Any other ideas?
