Factory Outlet Golf Courses
« on: February 18, 2004, 07:09:22 AM »
After listening to an hilarious article on Radio2 (yes, I'm getting to that 'difficult' age!) about what movies might be called if they only appeared in tiny cinemas (e.g. 'The Gun of Navarone', 'The Six Samurai', 'My Average Lady', 'Gone with the Breeze'), I got to thinking: What if they similarly 'sold' golf courses in Factory Outlets?

We might have (for Starters):
Glensparrows
Rubble Beach
Pine Divot
The Second-Hand Course
Rainingdale
Julya National (not quite August - felt I had to explain this one!)

Some of our brilliant GCA minds MUST be able to come up with better than these, so let's hear 'em!

Crop Failure Links.
Royal St Kevins.
Swinley Copse.
The Juvenile Course.
Crooked Twig.

Looking at the other side of the coin, isn’t it really irritating when you get a heap of dirt with a grandiose name. When you find that the Royal Mountain Springs Golf and Country Club is a rubber mat filled monstrosity on a 2 in 1 slope on the bonny bonny banks of the M62.

Even worse, how about when they give those individual holes names like Tigers Revenge or Nicks Leap in a desperate attempt to imply that the great have endorsed these disasters.

What about the big three on Long Island

Shinnelevitra
LGLSoM (Local Golf Links of the Suburb of Manhatten)
Deacon's Neck
And I took full blame then, and retain such now.  My utter ignorance in not trumpeting a course I have never seen remains inexcusable.
