Was anyone played the new River Course at Kiawah? I am heading over there tomorrow mid-day with high hopes.

I have played it.  It is quite a good course.  I've thought about writing a review of it, but haven't gotten around to it yet.  I especially liked the par 5 2nd, and par 4 9th, which is a cape hole over the river.  There is one hole with two greens, we played to the upper one the day I was there.  There are a couple of par 4s on the back where they constructed huge sand dunes between the holes that looked out of place compared to the rest of the course.  All in all, a good course, but not a great one to me.

John V.,Having now played it, I agree with your assesment - a good but not great course. Overall, there was certainly nothing wrong with it but I must say I was slightly disappointed. One reason had nothing to do with the course at all. I simply played the Ocean Course at Kiawah the next day. This is the second time I have played a Fazio and then a Dye course back to back (the first time was the Virginian followed by the Pete Dye GC) and once again, I thought that Dye did a ten times better job. His courses are harder than Fazio's but they are more entertaining too. I guess I enjoy his challenges because you are always thinking about what to do next. Fazio less so.I got the same impression after the Virginian/Pete Dye Club.
