I don't care what players wear, but I do question the hoodie. When the wind is blowing, I find hoods (on a sweatshirt or jacket) to be amazingly annoying, flapping in my face when I'm trying to hit a shot. I have a jacket with one, and I often end up tucking the hood inside the collar.

We call any collared, short sleeved, buttoned shirt a (lower case p) polo shirt. Not (only) the RL branded ones.

With apologies for veering from this golf architecture thread- well, all four in the picture have been involved in gca- I was at The OSU when Tom Weiskopf was near the top of the golf world and saw him often at the Scarlet & Grey GC.  He had an elegant, seemingly effortless swing which was a joy to watch up closely.  Tom was always immaculately attired, but he could have worn shorts and a tee shirt and still make a fashion statement.  Here is a fairly recent clip on his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ron Cerudo’s trousers were quite sporty in the 70’s.  Young Bogey had a pair of red and white checked polyesters that would have done any Italian table proud.  Also had a white pair with par, birdie and bogey in different colors as party-only trou in college.  Coeds loved them and they were quite flexible for gatoring.

We wear a similar hoodie on the river and the hood flapping around doesn't happen. The hoods are much more form fitting than a hood on a sweatshirt, so they don't act like a windsock

The thing is, the 50s to 70s are old enough to have lived through cycles of fashion and sighed and laughed at their old photos. The saving grace for the 70s was colour... which we now laugh at, but fondly. When JT looks at photos of himself 25 years down the line he will wonder what the hell was I thinking.
