Seminole and Indian Creek seem so similar to me . I know Indian Creek is easier but they both look great.

That's certainly the Skip Bayless hot take view. True enough that the pictures don't really show much in the way of Seminole's strategic interest but the course just may be the height of merging architecture, maintenance and weather to create a never ending supply of fun, cool and challenging shots.


I've personally never played a course in which 10 yards difference in angle of approach changes your plans so much.

Of course. Only noting that I found the photos to be underwhelming. Certainly closer ground level photos that catch some of the putting surface contours would be more interesting.

I don't know if Seminole photographs poorly, or if there just aren't very many photographs of it and even fewer good ones.

Pat's take is a little hot, but I recall a thread years ago in which someone posted a photo of a hole at Seminole and just asked some innocuous "Is this a good hole?" type of question. And they didn't mention the course...

And because there aren't many pics of Seminole, and not very many people have played it, there was a blissful 15 or so responses that were just based on what people thought for themselves, mostly, and not on trying to type the "right answer."

I'll note that it's a little unusual to see an elite course with so many palm trees. Seminole might be the most overtreed-with-palms great course I've ever seen. Not that they're unrecoverably thick, but some of the straight lines on either sides of fairways look awkward to me.

That Golf Digest drone tour is indeed pretty outstanding, and makes me want to walk back a couple things from my previous post:


1. Seminole definitely doesn't photograph poorly, or at least, it doesn't present poorly on film from a drone. I do think I've seen fewer pics of it than any other Top 25 US course, but I really want to see more now...


2. "Overtreed" was the wrong word. The number and size of the palm trees out there is a little unique - most of the world's most heralded courses don't really have palm trees about, and the ones at Seminole look huge. But it sorta makes me wonder if palms are pretty much the perfect golf course tree. They don't really need to be limbed up to create opportunity for recovery shots while still adding some intimidation and challenge, and they don't have huge dense canopies that block sunlight to turf. Not to mention that, if you're playing on a course with lots of them, you're probably playing in pretty decent weather!
