Favorite Regular Tour Stop

For me, it’s Riviera. Tee to green it’s one of the most interesting, challenging and fun courses that I’ve ever played.  And I love watching the pros play it.

Setting aside my top three -- where I think I could 'compete', ha ha -- of Colonial, Riviera and Harbour Town, for many years now I've really liked watching the Honda Classic at PGA National. Talk about a 'sense of place' -- that course and it's Bear Trap absolutely nails and epitomizes 'Florida championship golf'.

I’ve played all of these but Colonial, and I’d exclude PGA National from the conversation only because it’s too damned hard for us normal mutts. Sawgrass is more appealing even though it’s really hard the further back one ventures on the tee boxes.

Riviera
Kapalua
Traveler's at TPC River Highlands - might seem an odd pick but the course looks beautiful and I love that 15-17 stretch where lots can happen.

In case we're factoring watching on TV, I couldn't include any NBC-broadcast stops.

GOLF Magazine used to poll the players back in the 80's and 90's and the top three were Pebble Beach, Riviera and Harbour Town.  I doubt it has changed too much.  The one thing the courses have in common is relatively small greens.

Maybe I'm stretching the definition of a "regular" tour stop, but since it's part of a rotation, I'm going with Ridgewood.  I'm partial to Tillinghast and East Coast courses.  Since it's not an annual TV loop I never tire of watching the pros there.

I thought it was Riviera.
Tried to watch today.
Never thought my attention would be more on the treadmill...
Does ANYONE want to watch a pro putt a 14 inch putt?

I can't speak to the other two, but back in the 80's the reason they liked Harbor Town was because they could rent condos right at the course and have their families stay with them on site.

My top 3 in order:

TPC Sawgrass
AT&T at Pebble
TPC Scottsdale - yes you read that right.  Almost always a highly entertaining tournament with tons of score variance over the final 6 holes.

Peter,

PGA National?  Are you serious?    ;D

I like the Riviera the best as well.  The place has so much character.  I suppose the 11-12-13 stretch is less memorable.  But in person, the 11th is wonderful to play.  It has one of golf's great hazards, a broad, shallow channel with playable lies that crosses the fairway in the exact right place.  The 12th has a memorable tree next to the green.  In general, the Riviera has the most distinctive trees of any course I've played.  The Riv probably has more holes that I would award a Doak !! and !!! rating for individual holes.  #10 is great, but #9 is to die for.

I'm such a homer.  My three favorite tour stops are probably the Riviera, Pebble Beach and Kapalua.

I somehow shot under par on the back nine during my sole visit to Riviera so it is clearly the finest test of golf on tour.  ;)

Seriously love the course and to me it is Merion West Coast in terms of variety, strategy, interest, and intimacy.

I go with Riviera as one of my favorite stops. I enjoyed watching it when I was young and it was the first truly great course I ever played. Now I watch it remembering the times I played it and how I played.

Pretty much what I was getting at. Maybe not so much for players who are searching for tournaments to play in for early career or $£€ reasons but for some surely location and other various ‘inducements’ to play must have an influence?

The last three weeks are some of my favorite events to watch on Tour each year.

1) Anyone can win not just for bombers
2) Right in the heart of the winter
3) I can remember the holes

Its not just the time of the year as I don’t really feel the same about the Andy Williams or Bob Hope events.

It was the Western Open, before the tour basically absconded with it when they came up with the FedEx Cup, and destroyed what was a great July 4th annual event for the Windy City.
Now I enjoy watching the WGC matchplay at Austin CC and then The Memorial at Muirfield Village as long as Jack is hosting.
