If you're willing to travel to Newcastle, I'd happily host at The Northumberland.
I think you'd really enjoy Brampton. Some poor holes but some really fun ones too. Silloth must be more than an hour from Haltwhistle. Haltwhistle itself has a website that claims to be the most scenically and historically interesting course in the country. Both claims I have reason to doubt. I have never played it, nor have any of the other locals I know whose opinion I would trust.
Tyneside is another Colt course and Willie Park Jr was pro there for a while, I believe. I like it. Mark's suggestion of Hexham is also worth a look. Very much parkland but not bad at all.
