I get this is just Brooks getting into a state of Zen for the Championship but this is not a response to the actual crux of the setup issue.

I guess pitchers in the 1990's just had to pitch better. That would have solved the whole steroid issue.

I can’t imagine that when Brooks was queried about his feelings on set ups and complaints that it dawned on him to drill down to the “crux” of the issue. As it applies to his preparation and mindset going forward I would say it works for him. ;D

They all play the same course.  It really is that simple for the players.  Nicklaus said the same things.  And he was content knowing many people were taking themselves out of Opens before they started.

all true for the players...and Brooks gave the right answer.
I am getting a little tired of his imaginary slights to "motivate" himself.
all due respect for what he has achieved(historic), but if he's the face of pro golf(semi grumpy drone)....the Tour has a problem.

I will say he's been very impressive having won on 4 very different setups  1.Erin Hills-long, slightly soft and wider(anticipated weather)2.Shinny-USGA at its finest echo...echo....echo. 3. Bellerieve -long modern and soft 4. Bethpage-one dimensional aeriel setup.
he definitely has shown he can win anywhere- T-6 in an Open and 2nd at Augusta.
I'd say he's a LOT more than just a bomb and gouger-the total package.

but the crux of the matter is the USGA DOES do too much, to justify their existence.
Maybe regulate equipment a bit and they wouldn't have to play on dead turf to control scoring

The USGA should allow the course's superintendents manage the turf during the event. Those people know the course and what it can tolerate and how to make it as challenging as the USGA wants.

I thought Brooks' remarks were a touche to the golfing legends who were putting down the last few opens, and by extension, his victories in them.  Like James Brown said, had a Nicklaus vibe.

Phil, when asked the odds of the USGA screwing up this year's open, said something like, "If it doesn't rain, 100% sure they will mess up the 2019 US Open."  He said they might mess it up in any case, but without rain they will deliver another mockery.

Anyone making predictions?

Re: the USGA putting out a promotional ad WITHOUT the two-time defending champion AND #1 player in the world included is mind-boggling. He's dull as can be...but frankly they virtually all are to me these days.

As the Judge has said for years, Tiger is the straw that stirs the drink. The only other one I would tune in specifically to watch is probably Speith if only he would stop whining/yelling at every shot. Probably because his game reminds me of mine when playing well...smoke and mirrors.

Too much smoke & mirrors in everyday life, not nearly enough in golf. 'Hit the fairway' he says, as if 'Twist Face' technology hasn't changed everything!

so true-same here except he's(Spieth) 10 shots per round better than me:).
I've heard nothing but nice things about him off the course as well.

But he is unwatchable-I tried at the Open and he was soooo slow-expecting a walked off yardage every shot from miles out of play.
and the whining/ball talk is tough to hear too

I'm sure Koepka is a great guy and all, but I struggle with him being an authority on this stuff because he can't even be bothered to show up for regular Tour Events.  I know it sounds odd, but considering how Terminator he's been in the last 10 or so majors, its just inexplicable to see his lack of success/results outside of them against far lesser fields....

P.S.  Agreed on Spieth Jeff... and throw in that he's become a bit of a choke artist now to go along with his cheating at The Open!  ;D

It's all about interest and motivation, right? He doesn't have it for a great, long time event like the Canadian Open?

Jim,

That's my point, there are lots of other great long-standing PGA Tour Events including the Canadian Open that he seemingly has no interest for.  Tournies like Jacks Tournament, Arnies, Pebble, Riviera, Players, etc, etc..all fantastic events that any other pro in the world would be super pumped to win...

As a semi-rehabilitated whiner myself I admire the grit in Koepka’s game. I’m probably a bigger fan of Kyle Harris than   Brooks but going to disagree with him on the Open in theory. I’m cool with it being a severe test with high rough and firm greens 🥬

Doesn’t mean I think the USGA is the best at achieving the above but they are in control of the chessboard for now !

So bring it !😄

Ok...so whining about pro golfers has jumped the shark when the argument is they care to much about winning majors because they win majors.

Straight from his own mouth. Pretty sad from the world Top 1, imagine the outrage if Tiger had said that....

"Consider Koepka's answer this past week, when reporters asked him what he'd consider an acceptable finish at the Canadian Open."I could care less what happens," Koepka said. "The result doesn't really matter.""

Right...but to flip flop with the best of them I'll push back and ask...would you rather he pasted a diplomatic answer on it saying he wants to win every event and they are all so important to him?

Its his actions that defines him, not his words.  But his words only confirm what we've seen of his actions....that most of the time when he's playing with the best in the world, even at epic/storied tournaments like the Canadian Open that he "could care less"

I guess he really is John Daly 2.0, because he was often the same...

Come on?

Daly we figured was just too drunk to care of the greater stage. This guy decided at some point that his only priority was winning majors and the results speak for themselves so far.

1. What the fnck do you want from Brooks Koepka? Do you want him to have substance abuse issues, Tourette syndrome, or some other thing for the media to latch on to? You know as well as I, that in person, he would be spectacular. His only issue is that he has a girlfriend who likes to attach herself to his fame. For which, awesomely, he doesn't fall prey.

2. What is wrong with his answer? Find a way to get the ball in the fairway. There is not golf course on the planet that presents a fair fight to these guys. They are super strong, have inconceivable (yes, that word means what I think it means) hand-eye coordination, and have immeasurable (to the good side) mental and physical endurance. They are super-human, we are not, and that is that.

3. Some of you who find his quotes "sad" or Daly-esque, what is your agenda? Who hurt you? How is Koepka any different from Hogan, save the height and strength? You would have taken issue with Hogan, calling him the second coming of Bland McSoso.

4. The US Open is not your tournament. If it were, you would be on the USGA advisory board, or somewhere on its payroll. It will identify a stellar, worthy champion this week.

5. I'm watching them warm up on TGC, and they all have launch monitor behind, and tablet computer opposite. Any issues with that?

This happened last night:

32 U.S. Open Champions Gather for USGA ‘Reunion of Champions’
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (June 12, 2019) – The USGA hosted 32 of the 36 living U.S. Open champions Tuesday night for a “Reunion of Champions” at Pebble Beach Golf Links as part of its week-long celebration of golf.

Fortunately, BK was invited, but how funny would it have been, if the USGA had forgotten to invite the 2-time defender?

Damn Ron,

Going after his girlfriend now?  That's pretty low.  If she is just with him for the fame why hasn't he dumped her already? Lord knows he would have plenty of other women knocking down his door...

If one were to speculate its a fear of commitment that has kept him from proposing since they've been together how long now? That would be more consistent....
