Solo golf is only a symptom of the give every golfer every thing they want disease. Most people are so damn confused about what they are even doing that finding other golfers of like mind is almost impossible. It starts at home deciding what to wear. Why the hell did that have to become so difficult? Because a bunch of selfish bastards want to wear what they want how they want. Individualists, so to speak.

John,

I can only think of two guys who tended to play golf by themselves much of the time and it wasn't really their choice.  Fortunately, since they weren't about to change their personalities, our course and the members were able to accommodate them.  For them, solo golf was superior to no golf at all.

At my current club, we seem to have a large mix of players.  Most prefer playing in 4s and 5s, some in 2s, a fewer # solo.  This is seldom a problem.

Which brings up your strange notion and bleak opinion of your fellow golfers.  In most parts of the First World, there is an ample supply of tee times.  Demand is generally the problem and chasing off those who play golf for different reasons than you is pure folly.   But as a world-class provocateur and pretty astute businessman, you know this.  I bet you can be both droll and provocative to positive ends and still have fun.

The idea of promoting human interaction has somehow made me a villain.

John,

Thats not the point.  Your claim is Solo golf is bad for the game.  Still waiting for a rational, well-reasoned response as to why...

Kalen,

Technology is moving so quickly that we are on the cusp of virtual golf in the comfort of our own homes being as exciting as the real thing. We need to keep human interaction in the equation to justify the resources it takes to be a dedicated golfer. Otherwise it's just another game.

Not a villain at all; a bit of a rogue maybe. ;)

Some folks need to be surrounded by other people, or so Babs used to tell us.  Others are comfortable in their own company and seek companionship as needed.  Golf in many places seems to offer something to the entire range.  That's a good thing, I think.

If no one misses you the game won't either. I wouldn't show up have the times I do if there weren't people depending on me.

Fair enough, thats a good reason. I've tried the simulator and played several online games myself, and I don't think this will have an impact as Virtual golf is nothing like the real thing...but I could be wrong.

Even if it does come into play, i'm not sure there is much you can do about it either way..  ;)

I prefer cameras off the golf course too:

Have you ever heard a drone while playing golf? I have twice.

Have you ever heard a truck driving by, police sirens, people playing music, loud players yucking it up?  I have...countless times.  Why so sensitive Barney?  ;D

I enjoy social rounds and solo rounds of golf, but I wouldn't even say during the solo rounds that I'm truly "alone." There's always Old Man Par to play against, even if the USGA won't let me put the score in a computer.

Didn't Groucho Marx say he wouldn't want to be part of a foursome that would have someone like him as a member? ;)

I guess that you have never been buzzed by a drone while golfing. It is the single most offensive act I have ever been subjected to while golfing.

Most noise on a golf course will trigger nostalgic moments of past rounds. Drone infringement is the ghost of Christmas future.

John,

Perhaps.  I've always thought groups intentionally hitting into yours from behind is more offensive.  My buddy don't tolerate that at all....  He goes full Jack mode from that scene in Sideways...

Tim,

Playing just against par is like standing naked in front of a mirror or a window. One only disappoints while the other makes me nervous.
