9-Hole rates. I did wonder when this would come up. A good idea or not?  Good idea

Maintenance time too. Courses do need a rest sometimes

Earlier I wrote about English County Cards but omitted to mention something. Namely how many times per year can you use your CC at the same club? In my experience only once in a couple of decades has a record ever been kept of my CC details, date of play etc. Usually it’s simply play away chaps, often without checking more than one of the players cards. Lots of scope for hoodwinking here. This to me is an example of clubs shooting themselves in the foot. Look after the pennies and the pounds will take of themselves etc.

Initially the County card allowed you one round per club in your county at the cheap rate. I am happy for returners but we don't slash the price. The CC we now GIVE AWAY to our members is very easy to obtain;

it lasts for two years so can be used by someone that did not renew that year;
can be handed from person to person ie a non member;

If you do the same as we do and keep the county card rate up it does not matter as the customer is paying a good rate. Clubs will wise up in time and hike the rates up just like the hotel business where everyones inflated their room rates to compensate for Booking.coms 15%
A combination of whats good for golf and good for turf.

I used to think that 9 holes should be a privilege of membership not pay and play. It’s a great benefit / value of membership to play a few holes. But if it’s priced above 50% of 18 hole rate it’s not too bad providing it’s policed that they don’t play the full round.

It’s also much better than a twilight rate. After 4pm Members are coming from work, so no need to discount.

Another scheme England Golf in their wisdom are backing is ‘The Revenue Club’. Turn up to an England Golf Roadshow and they will preach to the gullible and convince Clubs to assist with dynamic pricing structure in return for a fee and a cut of the action!

All these Clubs maintaining Courses and premises and paying someone else who invests nothing.

And Club’s are going for it....

I don’t know whether to be glad, as sensible Clubs will benefit from their demise in the long run or throughly depressed as they trash the market and drag everyone down.
