Gauging Interest for a Silvies Ranch outing
« on: January 16, 2017, 09:43:51 PM »

This is an brand new start on the thread.  I have chosen new dates  - October 14/15.  If you can make this let me know by Friday, when I will make reservations. This is the shoulder season, and I believe the rack rate is $150/day. I suspect we will stay off-site Friday night and at the Ranch Saturday night.  I will try and get Dan Hixson, if he is available.

Most replies thru # 43 are for earlier weekends.

When I say remote, I mean it. The closest village is Seneca. The closest town is John Day. It is more than a 7 hour drive from Portland. The driving times to the nearest airports are Boise (3.5 hrs.), Pendleton (3 hrs.) and Redmond (2.8 hrs.).

The projected opening is July, 2017.   Am completely open on when this would occur, and could be one or two nights on property.

Hi Peter,

Just acknowledging that I have read the post.  I'd rather stay home for the eclipse for various reasons, but you shouldn't build your visit around my availability.  I do want to visit Silvies Ranch at some point, that's for sure.  Would it be better to allow for an extra year of grow-in?

Anyway, we can talk offline about this.

This looks interesting Peter.  Approx 7.5 hours from Salt Lake City as well.  You are certainly right on the remote part....

I'm interested Pete, but your lead date option is on my wife's birthday...

Keep us posted as I'd love to get out there.

I'm definitely interested in making the trip out there at some point, but wouldn't be able to do that date in August...

GRUDGE MATCH 3.

EDIT: I typed three point 5, but this buggy website only recorded 3.
Three point 5, because last time I only gave Kalen a half a match.

There is no date set. I am just trying to find out the potential size of a group this year. Once that is done I will poll the interested people to find a possible date which fits as many as possible. I mentioned the eclipse day - there have been enough "I can't make that date" responses to take that off the table.
Garland, thanks for your interest. Finding a date that accommodates both Kalen and you jumped to the top of my list  ;)

I'd also be 'interested' and largely dependent on dates.  I might even take the train out there and rent a car from whatever trainstop makes sense.. for a change of things to do....  ;D
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Hi Pete,

Like several of the others, I would be interested depending on the date. It would likely involve a stop over for a round at Wine Valley on the way over there. Thanks.

Grudge match 4.0 would be interesting...and Garland just might have a better chance because I've been playing like shee-ite the last year or so.

I'd be tentative for this summer as I just started a new job, but its certainly a possibility at this point.

Judge,
You certainly are a glutton for punishment. Based on prior experience with the weather I should schedule this for late August or
September. Climate shows an average high of 81 degrees at Seneca in September.

The Pendleton Roundup is Sept. 13-16 .

Hi Pete,

I am interested as I have been aware of this course being in the works for several years.  My availability is dependent on my work and vacation schedule.  The Solar Eclipse dates are a no-go as I'll be at Black Butte watching the sun disappear.

Thanks for reaching out and organizing.
Steve

I suggest you (and the others) avoid mid July!  Man that was hot at Wine Valley...

I would definitely be interested. Late August would work best for me.
Is there any lodging at the course? Is the town of Burns the closest civilization?

Why don't you stop over in Duluth to catch your breath?

Mike,
There is lodging and dining at the ranch.  I cannot find pricing or floor plans. John Day (to the north) is closer to SVR than Burns (to the south. Both were in the news last year -John Day for a major forest fire, Burns for the Bundy wildlife refuge standoff.

To all the interested parties:
Furthering this process, lets narrow the date range to the last half of-August thru September. This lessens the chance of excessive heat and frosty weather, and increased grow-in.  The highs should be in the low 80s during that period.
There will need to be two days of golf, because the course isn't a two-way street on any given day. The most likely scenario is Friday arrival, play Saturday and Sunday, with departure Sunday afternoon.

Please let me know by PM or email (pgpittock@outlook.com) when you are available (or not) during those weeks,
and if any other scenario works better for you.

Hopefully, I can get some semblance of a plan by the end of next week. After that I am out of the country for 3 weeks+.

I like that time frame.  If I can do it, that timing is most appealing.

Hey Peter,

Late summer/fall was going to be my suggestion as well.  While I can't commit to any dates yet, that time of year would be the best chance that it could work for me.

Thanks!

Pete,

Sounds interesting.  Can’t commit right now, but jumping in the car for a 5+ hour drive isn’t a big deal to most of us out west.  If I ever make it back Bandon, it’s exciting to think of breaking up the trip with stops at SR and Bend.  That’s a long drive from Ontario to Bend.

Shameless promotion:  If others are driving through Idaho, I offer up Canyon Springs as a similar opportunity.  Our newly acquired Doak 5 status sort of puts us “in the vicinity” as we are just 10 minutes from the freeway (I-84).  Be sure to get in touch, if interested, so I’m not on my way to Oregon at the time.

Silvies Ranch should be a top notch operation because Kemper Sports is running it.

I noticed that they are looking for a superintendent and a general manager, http://www.kempersports.com/careers

"A one-of-a-kind series of golf courses designed by architect Dan Hixson (Bandon Crossings, Wine Valley) give Silvies Valley Ranch four stunning, fun and flexible golf courses that will excite the avid golfer to the casual enthusiasts. Immersed in a real working ranch, Silvies Valley Ranch places golfers among aspen, sage and pines on a gracefully designed reversible golf course that brings you face-to-face with the majesty and serenity that defines the American West. It is a must play destination for those who seek a pure, authentic golf experience combined with the unique life lessons gained on a working cattle ranch.

[/size]Silvies Valley Ranch is a new frontier resort merging lodge and spa with an amazing, diverse golf experience that is intertwined with an authentic Western ranch. The golf is different with two reversible 18-hole mountain links courses, a remarkable and challenging 7-hole course like none you've ever played, and an excellent 9-hole par 3. Because of its design, low humidity and elevation, golfers have the chance to hit their longest lifetime drive on a stunningly beautiful 18th-hole fairway on the Hankins course.'
