Steve,

The course was designed by Paul Weiss, former Superintendent of Lehigh CC, and Joe Gackenbach, who I believe was an engineer for the city back in 1952.

Back before the Internet, I researched that one on microfiche at the city library about 20 years back.  ;)

About a decade ago, Dan Schlegel, then with Ault/Clark, made some revisions to a few holes.

***EDIT*** Paul Weiss was also the construction superintendent for Flynn/Toomey while Lehigh CC was being built in the late 20s.   Gackenbach served a number of decades as head of Allentown's Park system, with a background playing both football and golf.

Mike,

Thanks. I knew you'd come through.

Mike - it was more than a few revisions. All of the greens were essentially tilted discs. Not sure if all 18 were redone but I believe that is the case. Also the ordering was changed and 2 par 4's were made into par 3's (current 11 and 17) and 18(old 9) was made from a 4 into a 5. Par went from 73 to 72. The new greens are nice but not enough pin placements on a few, old 15 comes to mind. Jeff Wambold is a good guy and it's a decent place to check out if in the area.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for that clarification, it's been 25 years since I played Allentown Muni (pre-changes) even though I work in that city since it's almost always filled with leagues at that time of day.   I often go to the driving range there, though.

Great to hear from you...hope all is well with you and yours.
