Chicago Golf Club - hole #7 - "the Redan"
« on: September 18, 2003, 10:30:00 PM »
Just wanted to share the reason that I wasn't able to make the Heritage Committee meeting at the Glen Club today:

I made a hole-in-one at the Chicago Golf Club today!!!!!!!!! :) ;) :) ;) :)

204-yards with my Mizuno T-Zoid.

Thanks to my playing partners Jay, Sean and Carol for a wonderful experience!!!!!!! ;) ;) :) ;) :) ;)

Yes it's true...I saw da man hit the truest Mizuno struck since Nick Faldo was playing them in the 90s! According to our sources our friend and Paul's business partner Big H was the 3rd person ever to make a hole in one on this most historic hole, which would make Paul the 4th ever in over 100 years to ace the Redan hole. Congrats Paul, it was fun.

Fantastic news Paul. Not sure there could be much better holes to ace.
Mizuno eh? I guess I forgot what a Faldo fan you are. I'll have a drink in your honor.

Paul;

Congratulations!!!

Now, since this is an architectural discussion group, please tell us all of the strategic thoughts and options that went through your mind prior to playing that fortuitous stroke.

On second thought, nevermind...just ENJOY the moment and figure it out later over a well-deserved beverage. ;D

That is truly astonishing! :o

Please do give us a full description begining with the time of day you approached the tee, what you were thinking when you selected your club, where was the pin, where was the wind, did you inhale before taking your backswing, the last thought in your mind as you began your descending blow, the look of the ball in the air, where did the ball land, how did it track to the hole, what was yor first conscious thought realizing what you just did?  And, please do this before the scent of the Irish Sea mist and lingering hints of molasses and chocolate evaporate from the glow within the chest ignited by the nector of the Black Bush  ;) ;D 8)
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Holing in one on the redan at Chicago Golf was one of the most exciting of my golf experiences, so I can understand how excited Paul is.  Paul witnessed my 1, along with Jay and Jay.  Our host, Jay, as well as Paul, have now seen two of the ones on 7, putting them in maybe the rarest of categories--seeing 1's on a hole rarely aced.  At this point Jay has to be thinking it's his turn.  (btw, I was in the group in front of Sean, who was playing with Paul yesterday, and was the first to see the ball in the cup, when Sean made his ace on 11 at R. Portrush!).  If you want to make an ace, you probably should invite us to play one of the great courses with you--this will increase your odds!

Is that really true?  Four aces in 75+ years?

I know they don't do many rounds per year at Chicago Golf Club, but that's still a shockingly low number ...

I think the strategy was after the hole in one. Go straight to best strip club in town and get 5 of her best table dances along with the best single malt Scotch to create the mood of a champion. Then explain to her how the hole/green needs to viewed by the two of you with some personal interaction as near as possible to the hole.

Same number of aces on # 7 at Chicago GC in 75+ years as on # 6 at Oak Hill in 2+ hours in 1989.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

Paul,

Congrats on a historic ace on a historic course!

(Not to detract from Paul's accomlishment, but you'll never catch me putting an "an" before words that start with "h".  "an historic"?  Ick.

I've done a bit of checking, and, apparently, Harold's ace there 5 years ago wasn't only the third in history, although the feat is still a very rare one. :) ;) :)

I have been informed that I am the only one that has aced that hole this year, though.

 ;) ;) :)

Paul,

I would like to point out that Eduardo, our FedEx driver, indicated with great emphasis that, and I quote, "There is nothing from Chicago on the truck" when he came today at around 4:00pm.

So, where is the Bushmills? What gives?
