RJ,
You speak a very important truth here.  Moderate on the alcohol, and 2X more water than normal should keep everyone feeling OK.  As a matter of fact, I would suggest drinking more water the few days before traveling to NM to prepare for the impending dehydration of 54 holes in 2 days/72 holes in 3 days or more. :o

Cheers,

No Brad you got it wrong--I think the East squad should drink a LOT of alcohol during the days before arriving in NM and while they're in NM so they won't remember the drubbing they got from the mighty wild WEST team... ;D

Right on, Doug.

And Kevin Reilly, you ought to have gotten the Good Sport award back at TKP... let me award it now if it wasn't then.  I kinda knew you might be in for it when I set that up... but someone had to take the fall... as Atlee did that fateful day!

Drink more water than usual.  You will get a headache if you don't stay hydrated.  I'll be walking the am round at Black Mesa, and riding the afternoon.  My present elevation in Houston is about 100' and I don't have Lance armstrongs heart or lungs.

The following table is the approximate carry increase you'll see at altitude.  Unfortunately ground balls do not apply.

Assuming 1.5% of aerial carry advantage per 1000' of elevation:

Course - Average Altitude in feet - Approx. Carry Increase

Marty Sanchez - 6300 - 9.45%
Black Mesa - 5700 - 8.55%
Paa Ko - 6500 - 9.75%
Pinon Hills - 5600 - 8.40%
Riverview - 5200 - 7.80%

Tee times to be posted this week.  And a couple of meeting spots friday and saturday for dinner.

Cheers

Does anyone know if any of the courses we are playing offer four-bag carts? It would be great if an old guy like me could walk, but I'm concerned about carrying my bag at that altitude and running out of gas. Are there any options other than ride or carry?

Mike - in case it matters, put me down also for walk in am, ride in pm.  Two-man scramble it pays to have a cart to more easily retrieve the unused golf ball, and well... I have no points to prove nor ego and it will be less tiring that way!

Tom,
No it doesn't matter, I was letting y'all know for a frame of reference.  For the most part I'm going to guess there will be a cart or two per group (it's not an easy walk, at minimum it is a moderate walk).

Mike,
we do pass the carts on the way to 10.  it's more rugged on the back.   so if you're feeling tired ...  grab one at the turn.

Cheers

Aha - gotcha - thanks, my friend.  OK, perhaps it might just be cart all the way... I shall do whatever my playing partners want to do.

Irony of ironies, It rained all day here today. That has never happened in my 18 months and I was beginning to think it could never happen.

Not to worry, the monsoonal moisture is expected to let up, but yesterday's unexpected split in the jet stream has brought down the badly needed aqua from the NW.

Adam,
Sounds like you guys could use the rain.  For kicks I checked the extended forecast at weather.com and they are leaning towards seasonal and sunny weather for our weekend at Black Mesa and Paa Ko (mid 70s for highs and high 40s for lows, perfect!).

Cheers,
Brad

Mike,

In answer to your email questions, Sheila will play to ~ 19 and I to ~ 9 index.  We'd like to play together throughout (but can be flexible as needed) and pLease pair us up with Donna McDermott, our friend (~11 index) on Sunday's round.

Am travelling and will be back to Woodlands this weekend, I hope..

looking forward to this all..

Mike--

8.0 (a 9 at Pinon, my usual haunt) although well off that form lately, but who knows every round has its thrills and spills.

The kachina I think rather appropriate for a CGA gathering.  I call him Santiago "Yapper" McNamara for reasons that will become obvious soon enough.  A two fisted golfer if ever there was one.  You guys will have to figure out what to do with him--as a consolation prize (for the East Team no doubt) he might make sense, you know "all talk and a few too many putts."

I hope some of you coming to Farmington will have a few minutes to take a look at my raw piece of dirt (a project I've been working on for a few years now)--it's more or less on the way from Albuquerque, coming or going.  Adam has seen it and I believe he thought it had more than a little potential.  I do know CGA has been invaluable to me in raising (and tentatively sorting through) all manner of issues.

Looking forward to spending some time with such a troop of joyful irregulars.

Godspeed ladies and gentlemen.  May you all have bawdy tales of debauchery, or fine regaling of kinships made, to tell from memories clear as the high desert air.
