Golf Course Architecture on Instagram
« on: March 06, 2015, 09:04:56 PM »
About a year ago I started posting my golf course pictures on my instagram acct: @golfcoursegram. I found a lot of great people to follow who also post interesting pictures of great courses. I definitely enjoy seeing their pictures. Here are a few of my favorites (in no particular order). Does anyone else have any good suggestions for other people to follow?

@golfempireed                           @sugarloafsocialclub
@thedormgolfer                          @mtlgolfpro77

Andrew,
Thanks for the kind suggestion (I'm thedormgolfer). I find Instagram a very interesting tool to see how I can explain some of my philosophies about golf course architecture through pictures and words. I have to warn people that it's not entirely golf pictures (in fact, only 4 of my last 12 photos are of golf courses, although this is lower than usual). It's also good to see several GCA names listed up here. It'd be good to get a comprehensive list of accounts of GCA participants.

I've thoroughly enjoyed your photos, I hadn't realized you were on the discussion group!

Best,
Connor

Connor,

That's a good point. Not all of the pictures on these accounts are of golf courses. I actually have two accounts and post all of my personal pictures to that. I figured that my many non-golfing friends would rather not be bombarded with all of my pictures and thoughts so I created the @golfcoursegram account.

I am also on Instagram (@mfreypga), and although I use it for a lot more for social than I do for golf course architecture, it does give me a nice way to casually see great photos of some amazing golf courses around the world.

Bumping this. We had a nice discussion about this on the car ride to a golf trip this weekend. Any other GCAers on Instagram posting course photos?

Thanks for the shout out (scottishgolfpodcast)

Some of my favourite accounts include many that you mention..
SeamusGolf is a fun account to follow as is JonesGolf.

Tracking @matt_Ginella's trips are fun. Also check out the hashtags #biirdiecage or #whyilovethisgame while utilising the search function on locality. It's fun checking out courses that you're heading to soon or one day have dreams of visiting.

It's also the way I spotted the 2015 vandalism of the greens at Royal Aberdeen by Dr Hawtree.. ::)

I'll be honest in that I avoided Instagram for years because I thought it was just another platform for selfies.  However, once giving it a whirl, I've found there are some AMAZING golf photos posted from all over the world.

I post photos from my golf travels and the occasional hamburger.

For those not keen to jump on its worth noting Instagram while packed full of great GA content is also the fastest growing social network for middle aged women! 2 birdies, 1 stone right?
If you have played in Scotland and want to share your experience with other golfers I'd love to talk with you, Scottish Golf Podcast.

Glad to see that this thread has gained new life. I think Ran should keep a list running in "Best of Golf"

I'm not surprised to see that most of my favorite insta accounts are run by GCA'ers.

I didn't like Instagram at first because it's so heavily geared toward mobile--when I play, I tend to either go all-out with my "good" camera or not take pics at all. But I'm starting to get into it now and will try to take more iPhone shots of my travels.

@thomasmdunne is my account.
