Need Help - NGLA looking for a picture
« on: July 13, 2013, 12:38:17 PM »
For the upcoming Walker Cup match at Macdonald's National Golf Links, the club is looking for a photo of George  H. Walker and his trophy.     A posed picture, one of him making a presentation.      -        anything along those lines.

I don't remember seeing one, but perhaps one of our tree house member has.

Please contact me if you have any ideas.

If a player insists on playing his maximum power on his tee-shot, it is not the architect's intention to allow him an overly wide target to hit to but rather should be allowed this privilege of maximum power except under conditions of exceptional skill.

I assume you mean "Walker" and not "Waller."

Have they contacted the Walker/Bush families?

Also, have they contacted the other clubs that hosted the competition in the past?

Golf history can be quite interesting if you just let your favorite legends go and allow the truth to take you where it will.

George,

This is going to sound nuts, but I'm petty sure Palmetto GC has a bunch of pictures of George H. Walker.

I would still contact the USGA directly......and....R&A

Local Knoxville paper had prints of photos going back into the 30s at one time.  Old prints in the files showed all the crop lines, etc. Newspapers are a likely source, and some have kept the photos.  Have never inquired at the old, main line, big city newspapers

And some are selling old photos on eBay...ie...Tribune, Baltimore Sun...

I wouldn't doubt that those who have access could probably find something in the many online newspaper archives..
