There is a very old cemetery which borders the driveable par four 12th hole at Keney Park in Hartford, Ct. This is a great old Dev Emmet design that undertook a pretty aggressive tree clearing program and is once again beginning to shine after being left for dead ;) by the City of Hartford. Sorry that I don't have a photo.

Upper Cascades.  I think it's to the left of the 6th or 7th tee.

Joe.   Twinning Valley in Dresher. Right side of 16.   Well it was 16 when I was a kid

Ed

Good call on Twining Valley Ed.  And I played it the day after Rolling Turf!  I believe that cemetery is left on the uphill par 3 10th hole.

We have one that's hard up against our 5th tee box. Nice place to be interred, the view of the mountains and lake are unsurpassed.

I was in NC for a few days last month and played a wonderful golf course in Clifford, VA called Winton CC. It's semi-private and the dues per year are $100.00 per month for a single, no initiation fee. The place has some beautiful views, fun greens, nicely rolling terrain, and some of the most engaging people at the helm (the Pro was all southern gent and the super and I chatted for about 1/2 hour when I was on the 7th(it was chilly and we interrupted no one). This place is just about everything one could want in a local golf club.

It also has an old cemetery adjacent to the 15th tee.

This place fits my main criteria for rating a course, i.e.,  do I wish it was in my neighborhood? If forced to give it a number, I would give it a "4", as in there are 4 golf courses in my neighborhood that I would gladly trade for Winton.   ;D

Pacific Grove has one to the right of both the 1st and 2nd holes. Same cemetery, both Par 3's.

I'm surprised no one mentioned "Angels Crossing" in Vicksburg MI., that our seldom heard from GCA.com friend Jim Thompson was so instrumental in development.  The name of the course is for obvious reasons, as it skirts past the old village cemetery.  It is a Bruce Mathews design, with great input in the process from Jim.  I had a blast playing it.

Another course that comes to mind with a unique cemetery is at Quarry Oaks, between Omaha and Lincoln.  A prairie pioneer family is buried in a small well cared for plot near 4th tee (?)  It lends real charm to the setting there.  There is an historical plaque, but I do not remember the details of these settlers story.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Waverley 2nd hole, tied in to the left side of the green. There are gravesites on the 6th hole at Eugene CC and the 11th at Crosswater

Aren't there some ancient (or at least old) burial stones on the course at Tralee? I recall seeing photos of the stones somewhere.

There are six golf courses at the Landings club in Savannah Georgia. The most famous of the 108 holes on property is known as the cemetery hole.

It is on the left side of the 15th hole at the Oakridge Course,  well within reach of a long hitter, it is probably about 280 off the tee.  The cemetery contains two gravestones, a 26-year-old woman, and an 18 month old, both deceased in the 1850s or so. It is fenced in, the whole area might be about 500 square feet.

Isn't the big mound in the middle of the 17th at Cruden Bay allegedly a pile of the bones of vikings that were defeated at the site in the battle of 1012?

There is a small one (maybe 4-6 graves) just off the left fairway of a hole on the Hamiilton Elks Lodge #93, in Hamilton, Ohio. 18 holes by Donald Ross, and also 9 by Michael Hurdzan.  (I always check out the inscriptions, because if I recall correctly, most of them were born in the late 1700's, and died before the Civil War. Fascinating, for me).

Joe, you are correct. I was thinking from the green. Worked at the swim club behind the green,I think all the balls I used in high school came from there.

Par 5 Cemetary hole at Ridgewood, where I say hello to my Dad every time I play it! This is the only time I don't get mad when I slice on OB.

Note the great tree removal at the front/left of green. Turf used to be horrible there.

I've seen a number of cemeterys in my travels. Three that stick out in my mind mainly because they are all in play are:

      (1) Heron Lakes (Blue ) First hole enclosed cemetery in fairway (local rule play prohibited)  Portland , Oregon . APL D.J. Trahan

      (2) Crosswater (Sunriver) Eleventh hole , just left of fairway (Oregon pioneers). NCAA Championship.

      (3) Keene (NH) CC-behind 8th green (Ash Swamp Indian burial ground). Stories abound that it's haunted , many sightings at night.

I'll be at the NCAA Championships in late May and early June in Atlanta at the Capital City Club(Crabapple Course). Any GCA'ERS who are attending

please say hi . I'll be the skinny runt with the Roy Orbison sunglasses in a cart that says RULES.

Also, if there is anyone that has played this course. What's it like?

         Thanks-------

The cemetery at the Creek is behind the 17th green.  Should be completely out of play unless someone really bladed a sand shot.

Bill, I remember the cemetery at Painswick, but the stone fence there mostly hides it from view while playing.  I don't have a photo.

St. Enodoc has the most memorable one I've seen, but that's probably more so due to the church.  It's really out of play, but hard to imagine not taking a look around when you're there.
