Have you ever...

...blamed a bad score on poor architecture?

I had one the other day.  I was playing a hole that was a tree-lined dogleg right, with the fairway sloping pretty dramatically away from the dogleg (right to left, which I believe is an architectural faux-pas).  To make matters worse, it was a shortish par-4 at 340 yards.  Took a 5-iron off the tee, hugged the right side, and sure enough, ran it through the dogleg and into the heavy rough.  I then proceeded to triple the hole and go on a rant about the ridiculous hole.  My playing partners certainly got a kick out of it  ;D

I'll second the Hell Yes and go a bit further.  There is a Johnny Miller golf course in San Ramon California that is the worst routed mess of a golf course I have ever seen.  Nothing works on the course, the slopes or speeds, bunkering, its a mess.  Of course I was pissed which hurt my game and swing so I shot a million.

The bad thing about being an architect and playing one of your own courses is that bad results are your fault either way! ::)

cdpike,

Never

McCloskey,

What's wrong with # 10 at Southern Hills, a short par 4.

I understand Castle Harbour is gone.  Is the new course going to enjoy the same quirky routing and hit/hope holes?
